If you're unaware of the terrifying reality of dealing with upscale markets like Whole Foods, this video will be a real eye-opener. It very accurately shows the mean and dangerous world of such supermarkets--most especially Whole Foods in West L.A., perhaps the toughest and meanest place of all to shop. And yes, I admit to belonging to one such shopping gang. It really is the only way to survive on the West Side.....

Whole Foods? Bah! We have a Sprouts opening up less than five minutes away for those things my garden and gun safe can't provide. Organic meat, one trigger squeeze away. ;)

*snerk*

"What you need to do is put your little hybrid in reverse and go out the way you came in."

This rings pretty true.

Well, maybe. But you can probably get comparable from Trader Joe's for twelve, given Whole Foods normal mark up.

In traveling from the comfort of my home in CA to Tennessee on a plane with my little four ounce bottles, I was thrilled to discover Whole Foods where I could replenish my most necessary items and this does not include wine. I LOVE WHOLE FOODS!

Whole Foods was the only place, until recently, that I could get Buffalo, Ostrich and Elk meat. (low in cholesterol and fat, high in protein) :D

Yes it was a little pricey, but worth it in the long run.

Zeb, I had no idea you were so gangsta! Little carts, Bro! Word.

My fave part: "Pay $80 for six items...." http://www.runemasterstudios.com/graemlins/images/lol.gif So true it hurts.

That vid was cute. :D

BUT as a diehard Whole Foods shopper who goes there at least once a week to get fresh breads and salad boxes, then three or four times a week roughly once a month to re-stock the pantry with stock items, I mainly get the house brand organic stuff and $80 gets me at least two weeks' worth of eatin'.

Granted, I'm single and I don't have a fam to feed, so my weekly budget is different from most. Still, I find I get my money's worth in both quantity and quality. I don't know if the WF scene here in NYC is different than on the West Coast. When Trader Joe's opened up here, there were huge wait lines and I walked right on out the door, never to return. And I've never had the Two Buck Chuck, either. :D

ROFL The supermarket biz on the Left Coast is utterly cutthroat. Profit margins are measured in fractions of a per cent and customers have so little brand loyalty that they will happily hop from chain to chain hunting a particular item or scalping prices. The organic produce touted by Whole Foods can easily be picked up at a fraction of the cost at Ralph's, Von's, Stater Brothers', and etc. The real reason Whole Foods places their market in the neighborhoods they do is that the residents are very status conscious upscale. Bristol Farms has the same smarmy attitude. Their customers have plenty of money so they might as well separate as much of it as they can.

TJ's has some things I can't get from my normal market and so does Sprouts/Henry's. I'll drive there to get them. WF? BF? BFD! If I really want fresh veggies, I go out in the yard.

I think this video captures that perfectly with the hybrids, "fights" for parking space, etc. It's way too accurate. I think the only thing they missed is that just as many such shoppers are driving big-assed vehicles--way too big and usually it's just a woman (in yoga pants) her toddler and a dog in that huge auto.

I think there's an H2 in that video, though in my opinion, they should have had a hybrid Lexus suv or something to fully capture the hippiecrite angle.
