how do they usually manifest?

Do the symptoms come on and gradually get worse or do they ease off and then return?
I'm asking because I woke up last night about 3am and went to pee, and when I went back to bed I still felt like I needed to go. i got up about half a dozen times and kept feeling more uncomfortable, mainly behind my pubic bone. I got up again and watched some TV and drank some water, and 45 minutes later I got a pain on the left side of my back where I think a kidney sits. So I took a couple of painkillers and finally dozed off on the couch, when I woke the symptoms were gone.

There was no visible blood and it didn't hurt when I did pee.

I'm going to the doctor tomorrow morning to get myself checked out (Sir insists). I've never had a UTI before in my life, and I'm 51 years old

I got a kidney infection that started that way. a small kidney stone maybe, they ease off and then return? have you been drinking enough water?

Sir would say that I don't drink enough. I never think to until I actually feel thirsty which by then is probably too late  Plus it's summer here and I have been working up quite a sweat at the gym lately too.

I'm trying to make more of an effort today though :)

Back pain, to me, would suggest kidney (most likely stones). With a UTI, it's generally got more of a burning-when-peeing feeling.
Good to hear you're booked into see the GP though, neither issue should be ignored! I hope it's just a mild UTI (should feel normal in 24 hours with the right medication)
I hope you feel better soon
:rose:

could by as ''simple'' as cystitis Bandit or maybe you have an infection that has reached your kidneys. Glad you are going to the docs....am sure they will sort it for you.

Hope you feel better :rose:

it sounds like something kidney or bladder related. Don't put off going to the dr...i did once and ended up at the peeing blood and thd damned dr put me through the ringer and did every test on gods green earth thinking I was a whore LOL I kept telling her I was just a lazy motherfucker and scared of the dr LOL

Seriously, though, if a friend of mine told me those symptoms I'd tell her to go to the dr.

Well I have been a good girl and went to the doctor, he tested my urine which showed traces of blood and leucocytes (sp?) so I now have a week long course of antibiotics to take.

I still feel fine, no pain or burning when I pee and no more back pain

I see from your sig line that you've just been married and collard...have you had an increase in sex the past week or so?

I know when my husband returns from deployments/field exercises/business trips I have been known to get bladder infections LOL

drink lots, pee before/after sex, etc....

Nope nothing like that, we've been together 6 years married for 3 and this is my first ever bladder/kidney infection
Must be just the luck of the draw I guess

I have had my fair share of UTI's. For me the first sign is that I feel like I NEED to pee and then nothing (or just a drop) comes out. When my daughter got hers she said it felt like burning when she peed.

Generally mine come about if I don't use the restroom right after sex. Something about bacteria getting into the bladder and makes it really painful. I had my first one a few years ago and couldnt even stand up straight at work. Please please please go to the doctor and get it checked out, kidney infections are majorly painful and suck terribly. I got so sick, fever, chills, throwing up and unbearable back pain with the kidney infection.
I get them more often than id like, so when I feel that uncomfortable feeling behind my pubic bone, I drink lots of water and try to flush the infection out, but if after a day that feeling doesnt go away, I go to the doctor.

That's how I get when I get them.

That said, I've not had one since I was 9, so fingers crossed it's no more.

LOL My daughter was 9 when she got hers. She came out one evening, and told me it burned to pee. This was attempt number four to stay up so I told her to wash herself with a washrag and get back in bed. But the next morning we were all using the bathroom at Safeway and she hissed when she peed. I was like 'it's still hurting you to pee?' and she said yes, so I called her doctor (literally while she was still peeing) and made an appointment. They said it was probably the bubble bath she uses and to not use it anymore.

Yep sounds like mine.

Mine was caused by a bath bomb someone had bought me. I have a sensitive hooha.

But I was at school and could not sit still to do my work, I kept having to go to the toilet but nothing happened. Worst thing was my teacher wasn't sympathetic and made me sit through my break do to the work instead.

It sounds like you might have had a kidney stone. I am prone to them and it is the back pain that clues me in. The stone will sometimes block an opening and then urine builds up behind it and that is what is painful. Its amazing what kind of pain something so very tiny can cause! The pain does go as easily as it comes. Good luck to you in the future!
