Larry Lujack, WLS radio personality and, "Super Jock," died today at the age of 73. He was a friend of mine back in the day. I have many photos of him and played golf with him a couple times. He lived in Palatine, Il. not far from me. I haven't seen nor talked to him since he moved to New Mexico but I have very fond memories.

I'm sorry to hear about his passing.

I did grow up, and still live, in the Chicago area. I was sorry to hear of his passing. I remember listening to his Animal Stories on the radio, "Uncle Larry and Little Tommy." So so funny, my dad and I used to crack up listening to them. I think my dad even has a recording of the program on Vinyl that we got for him for Christmas one year!

Used to listen to him all the time on WLS. Back in the day he was cool.

Sorry to hear he passed. :(

I spotted this thread when I Googled WLS because of a thread on Facebook. I think I remember seeing this post at the time. My husband and I both lived in the Chicago suburbs all our lives until we retired and moved to Florida 2 years ago.

We grew up when AM radio was king because of car radios and transistor radios. WLS was THE station to listen to with jocks like Larry Lujack, Fred Winston (boogie check!), Dick Biondi, and John Records Landecker. Larry came to a sock-hop at our high school. He knew how to rile the crowd, announcing that the dance would last all night.

I mentioned WLS and many 60's things in this post: Old People Writing Competition If that sort of thing intrigues you, look into the novel I wrote about growing up 1966-1972 (the link is in my signature.)

Too expensive now.

The unions have run the city, county and state bankrupt.

Should be the first state to ask for a bailout.

It was headed that way, way, way back in the old days. It's been in a long downhill slide for the longest of times. Even the collar counties were in trouble when I left in 2009.

I may not be from Texas, but I got here just as fast as I could! ;)
