Tell me the good things about the current state of the democratic party.

Not what could be good in the future, or what was good in the past, but what is good about it right now in 2001.

Todd......

Any "thinking person" would never allign themselves with a political party.

Amen to that Sparky. Only the completely brain dead are stupid enough to do that

I suppose one good thing is that it's not Republican.

C'mon people!

If "you think" at all - you are your "own person."

That would negate any affiliation to anything.

Is this so hard to understand?

Funny

I always thought I joined the Democratic Party because tend to agree with their view of the role of government in society more than I do the Republicans. That being the case, I am allowed to vote in the Democratic primary which helps select which candidate will be on the ticket.

I have a group of friends. We are friends because we have some common interests and enjoy each other's company. And I call them friends. Does this mean that I support everything they do and stand for?

I think that when you refer to people who join political parties as "unthinking" or "brain-dead" you are in a clever way suggesting we are mindless clones.

The truth is that if you want to get the most out of what little political power you have, you are better off doing it in a party. Why? Because the system is predicated on a party structure.

It's a pity that belonging to any kind of group has become so "uncool" to so many people (the totalitarianism of cool is everywhere). People can accomplish more together in groups than they can as individuals. One of my students told me in a discussion, "but if I go with them, then everyone will think that I am one of them." All I could say was "so what!" If you are truly an individual, you follow your heart... even when it means saying "I belong to the Green Party."

PS on this -

An get this straight -

For the most part.......

Clubs, organizations, congolmerate groups, lobbies, religions - what the fuck ever - are for people who want "their thinking done for them," they're lazy.

Think for yourself - be a member of your own club. Organize your own religion (hell there's so many dumb fucks who will give you money).

Yah know? Lobby for yourself. You are what counts.

I knew that was going to be the best that you could come up with ;)

I do lobby for myself

I just do it more effectively thru larger groups of people.

I do think for myself

And I am my own club. I am an authentic individual.

So if I wanna join a group, I can, with no threat to my "precious" identity.

As only the rare and unique have any original thought the rest of us have to get along with following their lead.

You are your own person as far as the lead you are following goes...

Which would follow that NOT to affiliate to anything would mean that you are either one of the rare and unique or completely brain dead...

...I think...

I join no clubs......

Unless "they" - the club - know full well - I can blow them off at any time I want.

All the loyalty is with me and me alone.

I am smarter. I am better.

They "the club" are glad to have "me."

Not the other way around.

Never join a club - let them join you.

I'm not a big joiner on anything (hell, I can't even make myself hang on with the local atheist organization), but I see nothing wrong with being affiliated with a political party. I mean, it's not like the Democrats are making me go to brainwashing luncheons or anything. I can be a Democrat, and still do what I want, and think how I want to think.

Who said anything about "needing"...

If you need a club - to join - you are a week mother fucker.

How dare anyone risk the scorn of Spark? Even if they want to join?

I am quitting all of my clubs and affiliations, and I am going to become a truly liberated and unique entity unto myself because Sparky says.

God knows, I don't want anyone to think I am "week."

You and me, Spark!

I AM DOING MY OWN THING! I AM DOING MY OWN THING!

Tell us, once again Todd, why a Canadian is so facinated with U.S. laws and polotics?

Because as your next door nieghbour country, every freaking thing that the american politicians do affect us. If your prez pisses in the wrong toilet it affects us.

But the media being the media 83% of american's don't realize that what they do affect others, for the 13% who do I thank you.

Just wondering about the other 4%.

Where in the sam hell do you get this reasoning, Sparky? You must know some pretty stupid people to have come up with this conclusion. Everyone that I know that is affiliated with a political party, regardless of what it's called, is a thinking human being. You'd have to be. People debate politics all the time because the different parties have different philosophies. Personally, I think you know this but you just like stirring up the shit with everyone ;).

Ditto!!!

Happy Days Are Here Again!

The single best damn thing about the Democratic Party, Todd boy, is that it pisses you off so much. I'd join for that reason alone...
