For love or money?

This is a more serious issue and something that I have been thinking about for quite some time.

I remember that quite a few years ago now there was a book that was published entitled "For Love or Money?" The book dealt with the subject of male prostitution. This had to be in the early 80's when I first saw a copy of the book. It was alarming to me then to even think that so many of our youth at that time, especially boys, were caught up in the web of what we would call today "child exploitation rings." At that time I was shocked to learn just how many of these boys, some as young as 14 and 15, were actually living on the streets and making their "living" by selling their bodies to perverted men who preyed on young boys for their sexual gratifications. SICK BASTARDS

Move forward to the year 2004. Sad but true, that same sort of thing is continuing to happen. There are reports of boys even younger than 14 who are involved in child pornography in one form or another. These are innocent boys who have run away from home or who have been "thrown away" by their parents and having sex for money is the only way they know to survive. Some end up in child ponography magazines and movies, or have their naked pictures spread over the internet. Some become boy slaves and are sold to clients for sexual pleasure. Others are used and abused sexually on a regular basis, and sadly, quite a few are sexually abused and then killed. What a tragedy. What a waste of a life. It saddens me deeply that this type of activity even happens not far from the door steps of the White House and there doesn't seem to be much of anything that is done about it. Small towns, large towns and cities, in bus stations, at rest stops, and many other places, hundreds of innocent young boys (and girls) are being exploited every day.

Perhaps for some this is a "false" sense of love and attention. Even if they are made to do things against their will at least for the moment someone has an interest in them. How sad. These children may never know what true love and happiness is all about.

What can be done about this? I really don't have the answers to this one. Perhaps this is an urgent matter that should be brought to the attention of our government. Perhaps a community could band together and build safe houses for these kids and get them off the streets. I feel sorry for these innocent kids and it infuriates me that any adult (male or female) would ever look at a child as only a sex toy. That my friends makes me want to puke. It makes me want to scream. It makes me want to cry.

What a person does sexually with a person of legal age 18+ in most states is their business. I only pray that the sex between the two is consentual. My heart goes out to boys who are raped as well even if they are of legal age. Rape is still rape. And, in Ponyboy's opinion it is 100% WRONG

I have rambled enough. This subject really troubles me. What troubles me even more is how some people will dismiss it as just another part of life but it doesn't have to be that way. Are these innocent kids in search of love, money, or both? Usually both. But, dear God, what a tragic way to have to receive either. Thanks for letting me vent.
