For Gadget Geeks

I was kind of shocked that the slide rule was not included. The slide rule was mentioned in the description of the electronic calculator, but not as a separate item. The elctronic calculator was invented, at least in part, because the slide rule had begun to need more precision (or so they tell me). For any number of years, the slide rule was the calulator used by engineers.

I would die without my Zippo lighter....and they are very good about fixing them. :rose:

They have such great designs. The one I have now is really heavy, I could kill someone with it if I threw it at them....but it's too cool for that.
They really stand behind their product...in fact they aren't far from where I am and I think they do tours...think the kids would like it???

Rise up! gather round
Rock this place to the ground
Burn it up let’s go for broke
Watch the night go up in smoke
Rock on! (rock on!)
Drive me crazier, no serenade
No fire brigade, just pyromania, c’mon

Sorry! I just couldn't help myself! I'm a bad person... :D

Does anybody know anyone who ever used a pocket fisherman?

And they put the space pen on this list...
Did anyone catch the blog of that one european (I think it was) astronaut a few years ago? He recounted suiting up before launch and noticed the russian cosmo clipping on a regular ball point pen to his suit (the euro'd brought one of the expensive ones). So he says, "I thought those things didn't work in orbit." And the Cosmo replies, "No, they work fine. The americans just never tried them."

A friend of mine had a pocket fisherman when we were kids. I thought it was the coolest thing at the time. It actually worked pertty well for little stuff but you couldn't cast it all that far from shore.

The swiss army knife is more important than the telephone???? What crackhead wrote this list?

Wifty site. Cool article. Thanks again, deev, you bring home the cool stuff.

:D :D :D OMG! I cannot stop laughing at this -
Jacob Schick believed that men could live to the age of 120 by shaving the right way, every day. To further than end, Schick invented the electric razor in 1928 and released the first commercial one three years later ... before dying in 1937 at the age of 49.

I'm an evil person, I'm sure, because that's far too amusing to me. Then again, it may be the sleep deprivation. :D

Actually we were duped.

When we get to the end and find that the #1 is an Apple Powerbook?
And it's on the list twice?

(I didn't see the compass on there. Did I miss it?)

I agree, #1 was a little bit of a let down. But it is a techie site so what did you expect. They certainly weren't going to put a Ronco Jar and Bottle Cutter in the #1 spot. ;)

Interesting list! Shame my P900 smartphone/PDA isn't on there :D

It can do pretty much anything that thing, except make the tea!

It's not really a gadget as such, but I would put text messaging up there too, it's revolutionised communication, although it has also bought that rather annoying 'c u l8r m8' abbreviated English into our lives
