I was yawning through this until it got to the topic of smartweed, the bane of my garden.

I was reading some Hoffer today. In the essay "The Playful mood" he talked about Human Nature and the playfulness of man vs. the other mammals. He surmised that agriculture began as playfulness, as in whimsy, but during the following times of chaotic climate change, the playful gardening became a method of survival...

A very interesting thinker.
 
I once threatened to put smartweed in the water supply of they guy behind the parts counter at John Deere. ;)

I suspect agriculture began as nomadic tribes propagating medicinal plants along their route. You can substitute foods, willow bark, not so much..,
