football

Bowden's done a good job bringing in a lot of young talent. The problem is that it's an endless cycle. As soon as Espinoza, Sardinha, Melian, Howington, Moseley, Andrews, Kearns, Dunn, and the like reach the point where they are going to cost any money, he'll be forced to ship them off as well.

Dreaming...

"Oh when the Saints win the Superbowl,
Oh, when the Saints win the Superbowl,
Oh, Lord, I hope that I'm still livin'
To see the Saints win the Superbowl!"

(To the tune of "When the Saints Go Marching In")

As heard sung by an old street musician in the French Quarter...

*sigh* Someday....

Which reminds me...how did you guys come up with 60 mill for Kendall- and only a small part is deferred?

Two reasons that kinda went hand in hand - PNC Park and desperation.

Cam Bonifay has been GM here for the past 8 wonderfully fun-filled years of LOSING. Even in '97 when we came into the last weekend with a shot at winning the Central Division title the Bucs still ended up finishing the season 5 games under .500. What a sad fucking year that was... Comes down to the trading deadline and Bonifay decides he doesn't want to trade away the young base he's built for a rent-a-player to take a shot at winning the Division. Nice idea, but THEN the jack-ass goes and trades Jon Lieber for Brant Brown... BRANT fucking BROWN!!

Anyways... Cam Bonifay is desperate cause he's spent the last 8 years watching the Pirates farm system fall apart and he's been unable to fix it.... What's he got to show for the past 8 years? Kendall and Kris Benson.... If he didn't resign Kendall, then he was NEVER going to be able to lure another quality free agent in to this town.... Plus as part of the preparation for imploding Three Rivers Stadium, he would've been strung up by his balls in left center field.

Kevin McClatchy (team owner and boy wonder) is desperate cause 5 years ago when he unloaded everyone and cut payroll to $9 million he promised a winner in the 2001 season. Oooops.

And then there's PNC Park. 38,000 seats at an average price of $22.50 each, Personal Seat Licenses, Luxury boxes, plus the team (along with the Steelers) was given the right to develop the currently empty parking lots that surrounded Three Rivers. It's a huge cash cow and already has given the Bucs the ability to raise the team payroll for the 2001 season from the $32 million this year to between $50 and $55 million. Brian Giles got $9 million of that, and Kendall got $10 million.

Mr. Drew Henson will decide (based on the terrific year he had as QB for U of M) to stick with football and will give up any baseball career. Keep in mind this is the top prospect we traded Neagle to the Yankees for right after the All-Start break.

We got Jason Schmidt and Ron Wright for Denny Neagle. At the time, Bonifay wanted Kevin Millwood - who hadn't even pitched in the Major Leagues yet. Oh well... Jason Schmidt spent the year on the DL growing ever larger, and Ron Wright had another disappointing year at AA Altoona (or was that the year before? Hmmm..).

You're right. 4 down and 8 to go.(literally I 'm afraid) Not surprising. Free agency dooms a small market like us.

Ken Griffey doomed ya. In 1999 you had a young team with chemistry that had a chance to develop together like the Indians did in the early to mid '90s. Last off season, Bowden should have been signing those 12 players he's losing to arbitration this off season to long term deals. You take a chance with those guys and you can lock them up for 4-6 years at below market value.... Now he's fucked. He's got Junior (unless he can find some sucker to take the cry baby off his hands) and Barry Larkin (please explain that one to me) and, uh, like I said, by next spring you'll see Willie Mays Hayes taking batting practice and doing push ups.

Your wife's family is from here? And you/she admit to that? Publicly? Brave man.

Actually *gulp*, my wife's family is origanally from Cleveland. Her Grandmother moved to Cincy a couple years ago to be closer to relatives living in Northern KY. So this'll be the third straight Xmas that I'll get to spend hearing, "Hey, those Steelers sure suck this year..." to which I get to reply, "Yeh, they sure do. But NOBODY sucks like the Bungles...".

At least I can make fun of the Reds this year, too.

UMMM you are coming to cincy?? My B-day is the 28th....come over and buy me a beer! Hey...it was worth a shot.

Hey, Thumper, I am gonna be awfully close to you. My wife's Grandmother lives in Milford (Milroy? Mil- something?)... I dunno, it's like exit 57 or something off of 275. And I think dinner is at another relative's house near Goshen.

This will be 7th wonderful family Xmas with these people... Half the day is spent with everyone sitting around trying to figure out who the hell everyone is. Pretty much anyone could show up and say, "Oh, I came with Blahbity Blah..." and just blend right in.

Oh, and then there's the gift exchange. Even the people who are unexpected, like I was the first time I showed up at one of these, end up receiving gifts. I think I walked outta there with 3 flashlights that year. Woo Hoo.

It's like looking in a mirror!

Sounds like Bowden 2 years ago promising -when we got rid of Greg Vaughn- that we were 'rebuilding' for 2003. Said we were gonna get a new team to go along with the new stadium.

Ken Griffey doomed ya. (unless he can find some sucker to take the cry baby off his hands) and Barry Larkin (please explain that one to me.)

Totally agree. Big mistake. Oh and the Larkin thing was a case of poorly timed sentimental pandering to the media and town. Misplaced loyalty and a desire to please the fed-up taxpayers of this town. The guy is another hometown hero and has been an All-Star for 12 years. However, he is 36 or 37 years old. We could have used his 7 million along with Jr's 11 million/yr to secure some much needed pitching. But noooooo.

At least I can make fun of the Reds this year, too.
Not with a straight face considering your team finished 26 games back last year!

Go ahead pick on the Bengals all you wish. I will join in. Happily, too! But please don't make the mistake of bad-mouthing my boys of summer! I would be forced to personally introduce some of 'them there' steel-toed workboots to your cute little ass. Either that, or borrow Deborah's 16 incher and make you see the error of your ways.

Dear Abby,

I am a sailor in the United States Coast Guard.

My parents live in the suburb of Philadelphia and one of my sisters, who lives in Bensonhurst is married to a transvestite.

My Father and Mother have recently been arrested for growing and selling marijuana and are currently dependent on my other two sisters, who are prostitutes in Jersey City.

I have two brothers, one who is currently serving a non parole life sentence in Attica, for the rape & murder of a teenage boy in 1994, the other currently being held in the Wellington Remand Center on charges of incest with his three children.

I have recently become engaged to marry a former Thai prostitute who lives in the Bronx and indeed is still a part-time "working girl" in a brothel, however, her time there is limited as she has recently been infected with a STD (sexually transmitted disease).

We intend to marry as soon as possible and are currently looking into the possibility of, opening our own brothel, with my fiancee utilizing her knowledge of the industry working as the manager. I am hoping my two sisters would be interested in joining our team. Although I would prefer them not to prostitute themselves, at least it would get them off the streets and, hopefully, away from the heroin.

My problem is this: I love my fiancee and look forward to bringing her into the family, and of course I want to be totally honest with her, but I really am worried.

Should I tell her about my cousin, who is a Falcons fan?

Signed,
Worried about my reputation

While I always support honesty between partners in any relationship, I think it would be wise to just "forget" mentioning your cousin's deviant behaviour. Spouses do not need to know every sordid detail of their partner's family tree. A very close freind lost the man she loved when she revealed that her sister had season tickets to the Cincinnati Bengals games. He just couldn't deal with the embarassment. She returned to her fathers arms for solace and they are expecting their first child in March.

Lasher...I could probably throw a rock and break a window in Milford from where I live...if they aren't broken already. I have some friends that live in Goshen...a trailer of course. How about Station 28 on New Years Eve?
I got the first round..(now watch him bring all 37 members of his in laws family LOL)

Brainy Beauty...I got the first dance..and the last one...hehehe

Is that on Route 28? I think I have been there (hanging head in shame) but I am not sure. Is that the dump near Buckwheat? Or is it closer to Frisch's and Eagles Nest GC?

The one I am thinking of was a real dive but had surprisingly decent food, a bar and an outside area with great bands in the summer.

But if he is gonna visit our fair city, let's get him out of Milford for goodness sake! Let's take him downtown and show off PB stadium - the only $453 million showplace for Pop Warner-level talent in the NFL. (trying to stick somewhat to topic!) Then we can take him for a good time to riverboat row.

Dancin' cheek to cheek with the bodacious bunny sounds like a plan to me! ;)
