You see I pop in for five and have to start teaching all you yanks all about sport. Football is played by two teams consisting of 11 starting players each, five substitutes of which three can be used, with a spherical shaped ball.

Frankly I think we call it football just to be annoying, considering how little the feet are actually used in the game in comparison to soccor.

Often thought that myself. However keep playing please because if the US gets even a half decent 'soccer' team the rest of us may as well not bother turning up to the world cup. Have any sports fans got an explanation why the world series is called that when no one else is invited?

I have no idea. I also have no idea why we even compete in the Olympics against countries that only have one barbell that all of their athletes have to share.

Because at the time it was named that (in the 19th century), there were no other countries playing baseball.
