So I have decided that this year for Christmas (I know, I know) the family is all getting old fashioned food hampers. Hand made, home made food hampers.

I'll admit I may have hit on the idea while reading "All Things Great And Small."

So I'm thinking jams, pickled something or others, maybe some infused oils, smoked cheeses, home made crackers and breads, home made candies and cookies, and possibly a smoked meat item or two like a fish or a sausage.

So, dear Litsters, if you were gifted a food hamper what would you hope to find inside?

Any combination of items from your list is pretty awesome. Flavoured salts are pretty easy to make, I have even made flavoured sugars, which is fun. Candied pecans or walnuts? Home made cordials or ginger beer. Infused vinegar. You have bread listed, but I don't know if you thought about both sweet, breakfast type breads and savoury breads. Chutney, salsa? Homemade ketchup or BBQ sauce is yummy. Candied/dried fruits. Cornbread sticks.

And while your at it, may I please have a jar of pickled something or others? That should go well with Salad of Some Sort :D

I hadn't thought about dried items. I grind dried vegetables for use as "salts" all the time. Or dried veg as dry dip mixes.

:p

I love this idea, so much.

With jams etc, I think its lovely to make, and receive, things that either cannot be bought, or have a silly premium on them. For example, strawberry jam/ jelly is ubiquitous, but make a beautiful flavour pairing with the strawberry and its both also delicious and a bit wonderful and special.

Your cheese would seriously cause more than enough enthusiasm here.

Everything listed so far is practical and useful as well as lovely and are gifts I would like to receive.....that's pretty rare .

Thank you.

I made some mango, kiwi, persimon jam once (just trying to get the fruit used before it turned) and it is like peach jam and orange marmalade had a baby. I might see if I can re-create that one.
