Hi,

I recently published my first story and a question comes to mind.

I have had over 20 people "favorite" the story, yet only five new people are now following me. Seems odd to me.

Any idea why this would be?

It seems that people use the "Favourite" heart as a bookmark so they can go back and read it later. Presumably when they're not standing in line at the butcher's.

Also, when people add a story to a list it also shows up in your control panel as being favourited. The other day someone favourited one story of mine three times in a row.

Not odd at all, that's typical. Many favorites are just bookmarks for the story.

Some readers follow, others just fave a bunch of your stories. There's no consistency between readers.

I think Followers are much harder to earn than somebody favouriting a story.
Followers only hit that button after you have consistently produced something they like...
That takes time... Not sure there's a magical number, but definitely more than 1.....

I equate "favorites" as readers placing your story on a shelf in their virtual bookcase. That is different than them adding it to a "reading list", which is more of the bookmark others have mentioned.

This story has 433 favorites but is only in 119 reading lists.

Favorites and reading lists are story centric. Followers are author centric.
