If only he knew about Lit this could have all been kept quiet.

Until Kyle got a hold of it.

Frankly, that is the worst thing, that the leadership of the house can't be trusted to do anything except cover up and ignore.

Covering up, obfiscating, and ignoring the obvious seems to be their policy with regard to some other things too, like the deficit, Iraq, health care, etc.

They are out of touch and deserve to be replaced. Even after the Abrahmoff/Delay shake up, they haven't improved or changed.

Ick.
This would be absolutely horrifying if this asshole was talking this way with a 16-year-old girl. Somehow it seems worse that he's communicating with a boy.
Either way, the guy's a predator.

And the republican holier than though house leadership which bases its authority on family values and morality is complicit in his predatory immoral activities.

Do you really think that one scandal will make someone else own up to their mistakes? Especially not with politicians.

There hasn't been an honest politician since...

No, I don't. But the facts here seem to be that the Leadership of the house knew about the scandal and kept it quiet for a year, covering up for this guy. Its not just the actions of Foley, but the cover up which makes the whole Republican Leadership show their true colors: They are more interested in covering up bad news than facing one of their own who is sexually preying on minors.

I'm completely apolitical when it comes to American politics so I can say this with no slant whatsoever; Do you really think the Democrats would have done any different?

Not sure I follow you. Does that mean because Democrats aren't "holier than thou" it's OK when they get caught doing something sleazy?

Yes, the GOP house leadership is complicit in this. In fact I believe they should step down in disgrace. Putting politics over the abuse of children is simply beyond anything I can comprehend. Now I think these guys are downright satanic.

And anyone who reads this thread and decides it somehow relates to Chappaquiddick, John Kerry, Bill Clinton or Jesse fucking Jackson is a disgrace as well.

This guy was the co-chariman of the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children. And they kept it quiet and let him stay.

Lol... the republican characterization of the IM's:

The exchanges began with what Republicans now describe as an “overfriendly” e-mail message from Mr. Foley to the unidentified teenager.

from the nytimes:

Among those who became aware earlier this year of the fall 2005 communications between Mr. Foley and the 16-year-old page, who worked for Representative Rodney Alexander, Republican of Louisiana, were Representative John A. Boehner, the majority leader, and Representative Thomas M. Reynolds of New York, chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee. Mr. Reynolds said in a statement Saturday that he had also personally raised the issue with Speaker J. Dennis Hastert.

It's only reminiscent of Chappaquiddick if he drowned the kid in his cum.

AHAHAHAHAHAHA! I slay me.

Yes, and according to Alexander/Reynolds, there was no need to report this criminal offense because the boy's parents didn't want the matter pursued.

.

Certainly there's no comparison between Kennedy and Foley. Kennedy got away with it.

Nope, its just that Republicans continuously are referring to themselves as the party of values, that they win because of values, and this shows that they value their image over stopping their membership from being exposed as a pedophile (or whatever the word is for a sexual predator going after post pubescent teens).

Oh, and they let this guy remain as the head of the Congressional caucus on children’s issues. Great.

I think it is clearer and clearer that Republicans are the party of hypocrites.

Maybe I'm a bit too cynical but I don't find that too surprising. Scandals abound everywhere nowadays.

I'm most disgusted by his use of ''your'' instead of ''you're'' and by the fact that he also uses ''ya'' instead of ''you''.

But I'm weird that way.

I long for the good old days when a congressman would get caught in a public fountain in the early morning hours with a stripper.
I think his name was Wayne Hays, but I don't remember if he was a Republican or a Democrat.
