14 dead after tornadoes rip through central Florida
Fri Feb 2, 2007 10:09 AM ET

MIAMI (Reuters) - Fourteen people died after tornadoes ripped through hundreds of homes in central Florida on Friday, a spokesman for the Lake County emergency operations center said.

"I have 14," the spokesman, Christopher Patton, told Reuters, citing confirmed reports of fatalities from the county medical examiner's office. "I can confirm that number."

My kids and I slept through the whole thing...thank god we weren't in the path of one of those twisted monsters...**good thoughts and prayers to those who were not so lucky** :rose:

Anyone seen SeaCat this morning? He may have had his remodel completed for him

Cat is down Sothern Florida way kinda around Miami Area. TE999 is somewhere's around the same locale.

FTF i'm concerned about she's around the Tallahasse area. If she's much south of there I would get more worried. Slicktony is around the same area.

I'm in the panhandle. We had our bad weather yesterday. I'm glad I didn't stay any longer around the Tampa area like I was planning. I was gonna stay there till this weekend.

Glad to be home.

Minnie Mouse is all shook up by events. According to my contact, she's "Fucking Goofy today."

Or could he have been talking about something else?

Tampa didn't get anything but high winds and nasty downpours. Getting ahold of Cat now to see... will update.

i can't get ahold of Cat, but do know that he's working today, and is very probably just overloaded. He's to ornery to die in just a little bitty tornado. If i hear back from him before he gets online and checks in himself, i'll let everybody know.

Thanks for thinkin' about us here in tornado alley.

The weather radio went off about 3:30 AM this morning with a tornado warning. Scared the crap out of us, but I'm glad to have it.

Vero Beach/Sebastian where I am ducked the bullet. Just some heavy rain and wind.

Tornadoes hit north, south and west of our location, and the damage is extensive, especially north of here.

I PM'd cat, but I think he has his hands full right now.

I think the worst may be over, but I'm keeping the TV on.

Florida weather, you gotta love it!

I'm here... will call and see if Diva's ok.

Anyone else we're missing?

Mismused is in Florida, but she's kind of hard to get hold of at the best of times.

:(

Thank you.

I don't have my own comp yet, so I haven't been able to make contact with her.

Damn. Tornadoes are supposed to be in our neck of the woods.

Glad to hear people are safe.

:rose:

Wow, I didn't know there were so many of us in Florida--we ought to stage some kind of Lit-together, like they do in other locales.

I'm glad everyone's safe. All we got in my part of Florida was a hell of a lot of rain, and since my roof isn't quite finished, it leaked and my son had to put bowls on the floor of his room to catch the drip.

Glad to hear everyone 'dodged the bullet'. It was scary at times. 19 dead in the state at last count.

Florida ranks #4 in tornado frequency in the U.S., preceded by Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas according to our local TV weather forecaster.

That includes the ones that ride in with the hurricanes.

It's the price we pay for no snow...
