I just heard that a boy wasn't aloud to wear a t-shirt to school because it was innappropriate to the teacher, or principal, something like that. The colors were Red, White, and Blue.
Could it be that the school had a mandatory uniform policy and that a red, white, and blue shirt violated the policy?
I don't see how sending a child home for wearing a red, white, and blue shirt to school is necessarily a suppression of individual patriotic expression.
This aso happened in Pasedena, Texas. since Friday was designated by the Prez as a day to wear our national colors to show support, a grade school aged child's dad dressed him in a t-shirt with a flag--the child, of course, was punished.
The school made headlines across the nation considering that my e-mail is how I learned of it and that place is about an hour from me.
Perhps they have a dress code, but I don't remember hearing about it. I just think punishingh ANYONE for showing patriotism is WRONG!!!!!!! Least of all, this week.
Perhaps the tee shirt read God Bless America or In God We Trust or anything alog those lines? You would think that when the President of our nation declairs a "national mouning/pride day" then schools would allow it. Sure, I know there is 'separation of state and religion', but this sure souldn't fit in that category. AND, even if the shirt said something about God on it, it should still be the child's right as a U.S. citizen to wear it. I thought "organized religion" was what's not allowed in schools, NOT individuals partaking in their rights...
