I have a question about floggers--where's the best place to get one?

I've been google-searching around, and I've found some interesting sites but the floggers are all very expensive. Also, I don't really know the difference between the materials. I know that deer is supposedly the softest, but that's about it.

Anyone have any advice/links/places to get a cheap but good-quality flogger (or if not cheap, at least reasonable).

Alternatively, if there are how-to sites on how to make one, that would be welcome as well.

Thanks for your time! :)

If you google 'homemade flogger' and 'how to make a flogger' you will find lots of info on making them.

Here's the basic process I used (and then I added a decorative treatment and braided leather wrist strap to the handle) to make a nice, heavy suede flogger: http://www.ehow.com/how_2243474_basic-homemade-flogger.html

A cutting mat, long, clear ruler and cutting wheel (you can get all of these in a set in at a fabric store; I used a 40% off coupon from Joann Fabric, and the set ended up costing about $20) help immensely.

You also might want to consider making one with vinyl before you mess with leather. A friend told me this, and I was glad for the practice and experience with different tail treatments (straight/square cut vs. diagonal vs. forked vs. pointed, etc.) The vinyl was super-cheap (I got some on clearance/in the "extras" section of the fabric store), and while I like leather much better, it can actually make for some nice, stingy floggers.

You can also make quick, inexpensive floggers out of things like rope, clothesline and ribbon. For the first two, figure out how long you want your flogger (tail + handle + an extra inch or two), double that number, cut lengths of rope/line, arrange the midpoints of the lengths in a star pattern, and then create a handle by wrapping clothesline or something around the strands via whipping. I just knot the ends of the tails to give it some heft and sensation (it's also a quick way to keep the rope from unraveling), but there are several treatments for the ends. Here's a great video tutorial for a clothesline flogger by Two Knotty Boys (check out their other tutorials, too).

I've attached pics of one of my rope floggers (nothing fancy...it was one of our first toymaking attempts) and the handle of the leather flogger I made.

I know some people who have bought great leather floggers on eBay for very cheap (like $10, or $60 for a really amazing one that'd cost hundreds elsewhere). So check out eBay, and perhaps some of the other auction and fetish auction sites.

Various munches and/or fetish shows often have vendors who offer some high quality floggers at reasonable prices.

Edenfantasys.com have a variety in all price ranges. They call some of them whips but they are floggers - http://www.edenfantasys.com/sex-toy-reviews/bdsm/rubber-whip-1 - costs $24 and is a nice starter one.

I made one for my Master's birthday, it was very simple and if I could do it anyone can. I used 20 feet of rope and 10 feet of thinner rope to make the handle.

Loop the rope into three coils. Attach the thinner rope around the top of the coils and wind tightly to make a handle. Fasten off and then cut the hanging loops. Unravel the rope as much as you want, depending on what you are looking for.

I have tried to upload a picture of it but can't seem to get the uploader to work.

Thanks so much for the advice, everyone! I found a really cheap but nice-looking flogger on eBay, and bought it for myself as a sort of early birthday present. :3

I attached a picture of it--it's pink and black! :D
