Why do I have the feeling that "Ali" is going to tank big time? Why? It's about the (arguably) greatest athlete of the 20th century. There's a hell of a lot of story there. Will Smith can be good. Why do I think it's going to be another bloated, misguided miss? Is it the rap music on the trailer? Is it that Smith still looks too scrawny? What?

By the way, totally off topic, but I can't tell you how hard I've been laughing at the fact that AJ has to keep responding to his own threads so they don't go completely down the crapper.

Lord of the Rings will do OK but the dwarves who've read it over and over will declare it inauthentic.

I've heard excellent buzz about Lord of the Rings. I tell you, though, I'm getting a little tired of computers in film. "The Empire Strikes Back", with its puppets and models, transported me to an imaginary world more successfully than "The Phantom Menace" did with it's overly detailed Photoshopy backgrounds and uncomfortable CGI characters. Beautiful, yes, but altogether too busy. I hope the post work on "LOTR" doesn't overwhelm the story.

DCL, I agree about Will Smith being too small, although he did pump up quite a bit for this film.

I'm really looking forward to Lord of the Rings. I just ordered the triolgy to re-read since it's been many, many years since I first read it.

What about the Royal Tenenbaums? That looks pretty interesting. I like the cast anyway. Heard anything?
