Sorry Imp, won't hijack any further.
Agreed in part, but you can flirt without having any intent of it going anywhere and still have it okay. I flirt outrageously with quite a few single ladies whom I know (and a few attached ones), but everyone knows that there's nothing meant by it. So it's not necessarily a way of moving the mating dance further along.

Yeah, but in that case it's understood between the parties that it's just for fun. If one party was just having fun but unintentionally led on the other it was still a tease, if only unintentional.TheEarl said:

Hmm. I would now refine my earliest statement and say that flirting is when there is a common agreement (even if implicit) between the parties that there is flirting, whether it's part of the mating dance or just for fun.
The other day I was at a party and I flirted OUTRAGEOUSLY with a married woman. In front of her husband. It was all in good fun, because we all knew "Yeah, they're flirting, it's fun."

Teasing and flirting. I think the topic was well covered, though not necessarily accurately. Honestly, I think flirting can lead to sex, but I also believe that it exists as its own thing. Flirting itself is meant to be fun for both parties. As said before, teasing is for the humor of only one, but I think teasing also implies in some way that things will go further, whereas flirting can but doesn't necessarily imply anything else.
As always, the more selfish one seems to be the least favorable.
