This story takes place in the same universe as the film "Flight of the Navigator" from 1986. If you do not remember the story, the Wiki page is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flight_of_the_Navigator

After Max brings David Freeman back to 1978, the boy grows up to become fascinated with astronomy, but also determined to make sure no one is ever treated like he was in the alternate 1986. He eventually earns a master's in Astronomy and a doctorate in Astrophysics before going on to work with NASA and teach as a professor at Caltech.

In 2016, at nearly fifty years old, David returns to Fort Lauderdale, where his elderly parents and younger brother Jeff still live. Jeff has a teenage son named Eddie who admires his Uncle Dave, and having just recently finished high school, aspires to attend a good college and become an astronomer as well.

The event that brings David back to Florida is Eddie's eighteenth birthday party, which causes Eddie's group of friends to tease him because he's the last one of them to reach adulthood, calling him their "Team Baby." This all takes place in early summer, and it seems like a normal day for family and friends. But then everything gets very blurry and everyone at the party seems to black out.

After an unknown amount of time passes, David, Eddie, and Eddie's friends all wake up very fuzzy and surrounded by bright silver. David immediately recognizes it as the Trimaxion Drone Ship that had taken him when he was twelve, though the ship's AI "Max" seems to be deactivated. After finally rebooting the systems, Max reactivates and informs David and the teens that Phaelon came under control of an oppressive regime, wanting to remove all emotions from society. They forcibly wiped Max's memory core, attempting to remove all the data he had received from scanning David's brain and destroy his personality.

Max managed to create a subroutine within his programming at the last second to maintain a shred of his old personality, and when the opportunity presented itself, he fled Phaelon. His intent was to go back in time to 1978 again and rescan David's mind to restore everything that was lost, but during the trip something malfunctioned and he arrived nearly forty years off from his target date. His personality continued to malfunction and abducted David and the teens before finally forcing himself into shut down mode.

After reactivating and scanning the minds of both David and the teens, the distortions in Max's programming are repaired, but the autopilot is set for Phaelon and locked into the system, which Max explains was a failsafe built into his new protocols by the oppressive regime. He urges the humans not to worry, however, being that they are returning to Phaelon as it was prior to the reform, which will not take place for a few decades. Max intends to warn the current government of the impending oppression and stop it, and David and the teens get drawn into it as well.

From here the story can go multiple directions. I am open to ideas :D.
