If you disable comments and feedback, be prepared to get the feedback here, Flavor. So here goes: Underage sex is a no-no on Lit.! Fifteen yard penalty from the point of the foul and loss of down! Sorry, football withdrawal. Seriously, good character development, notwithstanding a few technical flubs ("she's" for "she'd", "drug" for "dragged"). Mark is a little too good to be true (is he going to turn out gay?). But the 15 year old having sex will get your story dumped, and it's too good to be dumped. So check out the rules, and if they're too restrictive here, post elsewhere--although your story has too much potential to be sent off.

But if it's as good in content as estragon says, consider reworking it and resubmitting it here within the rules.

Blackbird Man, See For Yourself

Take a look at Flavortang's story, and see what you think. As you know, I value character development and believability (or at least enough surface credibility to get me to suspend my disbelief). I think Flavortang's story has potential, whether as romance, or betrayal, or whatever. I'd like to know what other readers think, because I've been wrong before (and how!). Also, I wanted to use this as an excuse to rant about writers who disable comments and feedback. I can easily understand when a writer says "I don't want my stories to be firebombed by trolls. And I don't want my e-mail inbox flooded with trollishness." OK, but you won't get the good comments or the constructive criticism either. One writer wrote a great story about the ultimate Manhattan cocktail, the Aurora; Rassendyll wrote a hilarious Sherlock Holmes parody. I wanted to comment and give kudos, but both writers had disabled comments and feedback. And, contrary to popular belief, I don't play vigilante or substitute snark for criticism. I want to learn from other writers, and if I get out of line I'm certainly willing to be brought up short.

I'll try to look at it sometime this weekend. Got deadlines on submission of two e-books to the publisher.

It doesn't bother me if authors turn both comments and votes off. It means they are only into the writing. I think that's to be admired. Of course, I read practically nothing here, so I haven't been frustrated at not being able to comment on a story.

I didn't enable or disable comments. I tried to comment, actually, and a prompt popped up saying I'd disabled comments even though I hadn't, so it wasn't me.

Feel free to read more of my stuff for free at jimflavortang.com
