Thought I'd start a new one rather than add to page 4

Question - why didnt the dumb shits vote absentee? In my state,of 3 million votes cast, one million by absentee ballot.

Reason - we have iniatives - there were six fairly complicated ones on the ballot, in addition to all the federal, state and local offices. Our ballot had THIRTEEN listings for Pres/ VP, It's a hell of a lot easier to sit at the kitchen table, with the votors guide, taking all the time you want (we had over three weeks) rather than fighting the crowd at the voting booth.

I have no sympathy for anyone that couldnt figure out a ballot, stupid as it was, with it having been published well in advance of Nov 7

I am not sure about Fl but in Ga it is illegal to vote absentee if you are going to be in your voting district on Election Day.

Okay, here's the thing -- If a couple dozen geezers get confused by a ballot, it's pretty much them. If 19,000 ballots have to be thrown out because the citizens unwittingly voted for two Canditates, then it's the ballots.

Don't you have to say that given the number of mismarked ballots that plenty of pefectly intelligent people were too easily led astray, and were then not given a fair chance to express their voice?

The ballots themselves were approved by the parties, and so by the general regard for the rule of law -- tough titty on West Palm Beach. The ballots were appoved, you voted, done deal.

But just because they shouldn't have the right to re-cast their vote, that doesn't mean they can't sue. And I think all the bright, good-visioned people who were handed a ballot that was confusing (and illegally prepared, by the way, since State law says that all the names have to appear on the same side of the page, not on both) and robbed them of a fiar opportunity to cast their vote have a good case.

Interesting comment Julie, and I cannot disagree DCL. Thnx for responding - thats just what I wanted - some feedback - espcially on the absentee bit - here they declared winners with 1/3 of the votes uncounted, and the press never even brings up the subject.

still - if legal - I highly recommend voting absentee even if it means visiting your sister on election day

No I didn't. It's called a typo. And I'll respond to anything I like, Thumper, okay? This thread was started by someone interested in the topic. There are many people interested in the topic. I happen to agree with you...seems to me that if anyone was paying attention during the last couple of elections then this anomaly would have been looked into.

You can't really have another vote...just fix the system so this never happens again. Or possibly throw out the whole county. I have heard that proposed. Disenfranchise the whole county.

I said before that Gore should maybe concede but I have since changed my mind...in the 1800's they would fight this out tooth and nail...I say it's time to end the politeness and decorum and set to!

Nicole, we're always divided, on religion, education, racism, the NRA. Americans fight and bicker a hell of a lot harder than this on any given day about a billion issues. The only thing we're not divided on is our right to be divided.

divided at the moment yes= but not once it's decided.

We were divided in 1960 with Nixon/Kennedy
We were divided over the VietNam war, which started in 1958 for those that dont happen to know it
We were divided in 1973-4 with Watergate
We were divided in 1992 with Clintonm/Bush SR/Perot
We were divided over impeachment in 1998

We were divided over WWII in 1941 - did anyone know the vote margin to go to war against Germany? it was ONE VOTE in the Senate

We were divided a hell of a lot of times prior to 1960 but this will suffice. We will be divided in the future over other things - so what?

We are together when it counts - this isnt really a big deal - nothing will get done anyway with a split Congress/executive branch
