This has probably been done before somewhere, so forgive me for being lazy and not looking, but I'm wondering what people's five favorite books are. Here are mine:

1. The Count of Monte Cristo (res ipsa loquitor)
2. The Voyage of the Catalpa
3. La sombra del viento (The Shadow of the Wind)
4. The Four Feathers
5. Pepita Jiménez

1. The Reckoning
2. Dandelion Wine
3. The Grapes of Wrath
4. Any travel book
5. The Chief

Geek Love - Katherine Dunn
Lullaby - Chuck Palahniuk
Brighton Rock - Graham Greene
The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe - CS Lewis
The Darkangel Trilogy (*cheats*) - Meredith Ann Pierce

Playboy
Penthouse
Hustler
Swank
Little Janie Visits the Dentist

The Age of Fire Series by E.E. Knight
The Dragon Age Series by James Maxey
DragonDoom by Dennis L. McKiernan
The Dragon DelaSangre Series by Alan F. Troop
The Obsidian Chronicles Series by Lawrence Watt-Evans

Okay, okay...I know only one of these listings is just one book, but to only choose 5 single books from my geektastic dragon collection was just too difficult. ;)

This is hard...I've too many favorites!

First ones that come to mind...

Jane Eyre Charlotte Bronte
To Kill A Mockingbird Harper Lee
Pride and Prejudice Jane Austen
Wish You Well David Baldacci
and
Travel book pertaining to my next place of adventure.

My top 5 are all by the same author in a series of 16 and counting ...

Laurell K. Hamilton

:)

1. Selected Stories by Andre Dubus (the father, not the III)
2. The Great Gatsby - F Scott Fizgerald
3. Hateship, Friendship, Loveship, Courtship, Marriage by Alice Munro
4. The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon
5. Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Disclaimer: This top five list will change. Not only will it change as I read new books, but it will change as the autumn comes (and then the winter, and spring..), as my moods swing, as some new challenge or joy hits me...perfect books are like the distillation of mood, weather, phase of the moon and my general level of optimism. The consumption of red wine will cause me to include Don Quixote and at least one other Marquez novel, the consumption of vodka will cause me to include at least two Russian novels, the consumption of tequila will result in my claiming this entire enterprise to be an evil attempt to shackle literature...

*laughs* what a perfect way to describe the ever shifting need for differing books.... i keep trying to think of a top five to post and it changes each time i log in....

Angela’s Ashes - Frank McCourt

These 5 were off the top of my head. It may be accurate today, but not in 5 minutes.

I will read practically anything. My tastes vary wildly, as much as my music choices. I still remember my favorites as a child when I would huddle under my blanket with a flashlight and wish with all my might not to be caught and dragged from bed.

But always, the best books are the ones that take me to a different time and place and with half the book done, I start to mourn the end.

1. Tarzan by Edgar Rice Burroughs
2. Robin Hood by Howard Pyle
3. Another Fine Myth by Robert Aspirin
4. Hunt For Red October by Tom Clancy
5. Semi-Tough by Dan Jenkins

***It should be duly noted that it could have been any book by Tom Clancy or Robert Aspirin on this list. This list may change at any time.***

I would also like to tack on this portion of the Crved Ones disclaimer...

If I didn't, I'd be back her editing that list way too many times!

This is tough, because there are lots of books I might want on the list, but some of my most treasured books include:

To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee
The Grapes of Wrath, by John Steinbeck
Move Your Shadow, by Joseph Lelyveld
Simple Justice, by Richard Kluger
Night Watch, by Terry Pratchett

Magician ~~ Raymond E Feist
The Sword of Truth (series) ~~ Terry Goodkind
Eagle In The Sky ~~ Wilbur Smith
Winterdance ~~ Gary Paulsen
Moobli ~~ Mike Tomkies

Same as many on here, this list is fluid.
I like to read mostly for escapsim/relaxation. However, the last 3 books on that list have all had me sobbing my heart out - so I tend not to read those in public places !
