Hello all.

I’m a 26 year old who has come to the realization that they should start hitting the gym more often.

While I’m not overweight or incredibly unfit, I realize that my health can and should be prioritized. I used to go to the gym back in the college days, but upon entering the real world, gym time got replaced with lots of work, family obligations, and more.

That being said, I’ve found it difficult to maintain the motivation to keep a regular gym schedule. I’ve been trying for roughly a year and haven’t had much luck.

Suddenly I had an idea. Maybe I could strike a deal with one of literoitca’s lovely women where she could help motivate me to go to the gym. Maybe it’s pic swapping; maybe it’s motivational messages with sexy inuendos - who knows?

If you’d have any interest in helping a young man get his gym mojo back, please let me know.

Thanks in advance,
Night rider

It’s so true - it felt so much easier back in college when gyms were right there and you could go with friends.

But, Day 1 is in the books and it feels good (if slightly sore) haha

Thanks for the support!

Bump for coping with colder weather while running

Well, i'm 28 now, for what its worth haha.

I've continued exercising with good results, but it sure would be better if I had a "personal coach" or "trainer" who helped inspire me haha.

Especially as it gets colder and colder; coming home and earning some warmth sure would be nice ;)

I'm more than happy to make this a two-way training program, too - with the right person of course!

Forget the gym. Waste of time. Do high intensity interval training from home. There are Apps.

I agree- I left the standard gym and switched to interval training and just plain old running.

Much better, and cheaper!

HIIT (high intensity interval training) is great for burning fat in a small amount of time. No need to do it daily. A few times per week is more than enough. It also seems to get the 'good' chemistry in my brain going, so I am in a better mood and just feel like I have energy.

It is hard to be self motivated, but you are doing it. Great! I was a NETA certified personal trainer for 4 years in the USA, and belonged in a medieval fighting club for 2 decades. Now that I moved away, I stay motivated by our yearly fitness test.

The test consist of 4 exercises.
Pullups (20 is max score)
pushups (71 is max score)
crunches in 2 minutes (100 is max score)
1 mile run (6 minutes is highest score)

The passing grade is based roughly on your age. So, less points are needed if you are older versus younger. I always passed on the youngest age group, despite being one of the oldest members. :)

To help gain more muscle mass, you could add a weighted vest to your exercises.

I can detail this out further if you like. I would take an 'unofficial' test every week and record my progress and weight. Also take notes about calorie intake and such. I lost motivation in August of this year, after developing 'golfer's elbow and aching shoulder'.

As this thread is kinda old, if there is any interest, we could do this as a group. Anyone interested?
