Hi!

I have just joined and am in the middle of submitting my first story. I must admit, I'm more than a little nervous... Any advice for a newbie?

Once the approval phase is over, do I actually ask for comments on the story... or just wait?

Timidly,

welcome to the AH. :rose:

The best advice I can give anyone is to get a thick skin. That, and write, write, and then write some more. :)

Cloudy's right. But remember, after writing and writing, edit a little.

Probably a very silly newbie thing to ask...
can a story be edited in any way after submission?

Not until after it posts. Then, you can resubmit the story with edits. Just indicate "EDIT" after the title.

Welcome to the AH. Best advice I can give to someone who's willing to learn is to take your story to the Story Discussion Circle on the forums here. They'll give you an absolute masterclass. It'll hurt, but it'll help no end.

Hope you have fun.

Yes, but it will take a while and most of the persons that read your story will do so in the first week, so I would recommend getting it right the first time.
