I have been reading for years and have been recently thinking about writing although I'm finding it tougher than I thought it would be. I am having trouble getting across what I want and end up going off track a little... I want my first submission to be fairly short so that I can just use it to gain some experience but it doesn't seem to e happening :s
Does anybody have any tips or advice for me?? Thank you :D

Well, you're really asking for help on how to write, which is not easy. Lots of people will give you different advice, some may work for you, some not. Try this; just write. Get everything you want to say on paper. They re read it and see if it makes sense to you as a reader. Gotta start somewhere.

There's as many tips (wait, no, there's probably ten times as many tips) as there are writers, and writers are always full of...advice. You will get a lot of it here; try what you like and see what works for you. Then soon you'll be giving the tips and advice.

You might try for now, though, just writing whatever comes out - let it take you wherever it's going. Then leave it for a while and look at it again. Either trim it and ficus it where you want it then, or throw it out and write something completely different. And take a good look at where you think you're going off track - it might be a more interesting route than the one you had planned.

Yep your right, I think I was hoping for some secret trick or something haha.. It just seems so far away especially when you don't know if what your writing is complete rubbish!

You need an editor. Check the editor's forum. This thread lists the currently available editors.

Check Out "How To" and "Essay" Categories

You need to be more specific. Exactly what are you having trouble with? The sex only? Descriptions? Dialogue?

A story is a triangle of Character, Setting, Plot with an idea in the center. Do you have all that? If you've missing any one of those things, then that might be your problem. If none of that is the problem, or fixing it doesn't solve the problem, check out the "Essay" category of Literotica and the "How To" category (browse or use the search engine--just put in "writing" or "erotica" or "Sex scenes")--there are some marvelous essays, tricks and tips on writing erotica. They're an untapped gold mine of writerly wisdom.

Maybe short isn't for you. It isn't for me. Let the story go where it wants for now. Later, a few days to a week, go back and see if it is rambling. If so, trim it. If not then see where it went and see if it fits what you want or is something that is usable.

Welcome to the wonderful world of craziness called writing. If you weren't crazy when you started, you will be when you finish. it's a fun trip in either case.

Welcome to the AH also. We are a wealth of information, some of it even usable.

I think the advice 3113 and Bronzeage (in that order of using it) is just great.

Don't worry about 'saying what you want to' on the first go. Get your story down from beginning to end, then look at it. Leave it alone for a day or two then come back as a fierce critic, rewriting stuff that doesn't work, cutting out irrelevant bits, checking the plot flows and, perhaps, do that a couple of times.

Then ask for an editor, tell them what you are trying to get across, then read a third party take.

When you post, get some feedback (never rude) by sticking a link on Story Feedback.

An author never believes a story is 'finished'. There comes a moment when you have to call a halt and let your baby, however imperfect, fly the coop.

Good luck.

Thanks to everyone that has posted. Everything has helped me out in some way! I needed to clear up a way to get where I wanted and how to put certain things into words.. Just by reading a few peoples comments the thought process is starting up ad I'm a little more positive :)

I'm surprised Cloudy hasn't made an appearance and berated everyone on their spelling! I guess she only has a problem with mine.

Hey welcome to the AH! There has been some good advice given here already. Try what you want disregard the rest but the advice so far is sound.

I alway find that when I'm stuck or the story is getting too lengthy when I wanted it short, is to put it down and work on something else. Of course I have a bunch of stories I will have to finish one day.

Putting things into words is something we all struggle with - writers just get it worse. Don't chase perfection, adequacy and a story we want to get to the end of, works pretty well here.

I agree with the rest of this bunch: just write and tell the story the way you want to tell it. It has to make sense to you and read like you want it to or it's not yours......go for it.....

Another way to kick-start the writing process is imagine you are writing a letter to a friend describing experiences you as the primary character in the story have had. Be as descriptive as possible trying to convey to your 'friend' the emotions you felt while experiencing whatever. You'll find you've written a story of sorts or the beginnings of one.

Good luck and welcome to the AH. :rose:
