When Og whips you to submit to the contests where the trolls lacerate you - when you make a witty riposte and Rumply wipes the floor with your youthful mistakes and lack of erudition - then, when you bear the scars of AHship, you truly have earned your spurs.

They all write romance for this - it's just a thing that you might get voted down if there wasn't a serious Val Day connectionk - however vague. Have a look at past years on the 'Holiday Contest' link on Author Contests. Ignore Og - he always tries for last place.
