Firefly/Serenity Revisited. OOC Thread/Casting Call.

This SRP is fully cast for the moment but we may need some cameos later on if anyone's interested in portraying an old fave like Badger, Mingo & Fanty or Mr Universe.

I was involved in a Firefly/Serenity thread a while back and I've been toying with giving it another shot as I just love the premise and characters. Last time I ended up pretty much co-ordinating the whole plot, which I didn't handle that spectacularly. This time around I'd like people who are familiar with the FF/S worlds and who will contribute ideas and opinions on this thread to keep our ship moving through various jobs, or episodes if you prefer. I'm looking for articulate, inventive writers who can post a few paragraphs at a time, at least a couple of times a week. This thread will have a strong plot so don't expect a continuous fuckfest.

I'm going to conveniently overlook the tragic deaths of Wash and Book. As avoiding the alliance and protecting River are strong themes, our Firefly RP will be pre-Serenity. Book has retired from the ship, mainly as in the last RP it was hard to find much for him to do. I'm certain we'll pay him a visit at some point, however.

I do need a certain standard of poster in order to enjoy the SRP and for everyone to be posting on an equal level as regards length and quality. Therefore it is not a case of claiming a role first. I'm not bothered about mammoth post counts but I think, as an introduction, you should maybe give us an insight as to why you'd like to play the character you've picked and anything you're going to bring to the role like kink or other proclivities. While I reserve the right to make the casting calls, I'm not about to interfere with how you portray your character as we go along. I'm picky but I'm fair... honest. I just can't bear for this attempt to be lacklustre and disappointing. I know you people are out there.

I'm going to play Inara. I'm very submissive and masochistic so I'd like a dominant and sadistic take on Mal. I'm looking for the tension between them to escalate until he gives up all pretence of indifference and starts taking steps to make her his. Inara won't willingly leave her lifelong profession for a jealous, capricious, lecherous hump so a power-struggle is going to ensue.

Wash and Zoe are of course married, Simon and Kaylee are still awkwardly circling each other. Jayne and River would be completely improbable so the plan is to find these characters more suitable playmates as we go along. I have a vague idea about re-introducing Saffron somehow as Jayne would be wiser to her bullshit and it could be an explosive match but at present, it's just a thought.

I'm not going to look for any non-original characters at this stage so if you have a burning desire to create one, please feel free to subscribe to the thread and suggest your character profile once we're far along enough to be planning missions featuring specific worlds. Obviously, not all additional characters will become permanent but there's nothing to stop willing participants from playing serial support characters as Serenity potters between planets. I'd like to include a few favourites like Mingo & Fanty and Mr Universe. I'm sure we'll work this out as we go.

There's probably stuff I've forgotten to consider so feel free to point it out.

Whoever you choose to play... she'll definitely be different. Actually, I think for River to emerge from puberty as a lesbian would be very interesting indeed.

The last FF/S thread was my only real attempt at a multiplayer too. Another poster started it and then flaked when the idea gathered momentum. Responsibility got handed to me unexpectedly but hopefully I can do better this time... especially if I have you on hand to crack the whip.

I'm a bit interested. I've seen the series a few times over now, once again very recently. I think I could handle pretty much any character but I'd be partial to Mal or Simon. Though I'm unsure that "dominant and sadistic" would be ways to describe him. He's dominant in the sense that he's the captain, but he can also be noble and respectful, yet even a bit weak around women given the mini-relationships in the series we saw him be a part of with Saffiron and Nandi. Granted those were not serious relationships but nonetheless...

I'd like to play him because I'm interested in a good story thread, where the sex and relationships are a result of the story, not just tossed in for the hell of it. Mal gets to see most of the action whereas Simon seems to be left behind more often.

On the other hand Simon probably represents my personality a bit better. Intelligent and somewhat cold. While I think I'm better with women than he is, he does embody a shyness that I still maintain.

I guess I don't know. I'd like to see the thread get more interest before putting too much thought into it.

Our Book in the last SRP did a lot of hanging around and we had trouble recruiting a love interest for him. If you'd really like the role however, there's no reason why he can't be included. We can worry about finding him some pussy later.

Hi. I've always wanted to write in a FF storyline. I'd be interested in playing Zoe, she's a wonderful strong woman, who kicks some serious ass, but has a warm heart and that special soft spot for Wash. I love the dynamic between her and Mal they make a great team. I've always like Zoe because she is similar to a smuggler character I've written over the years.

I just ADORE ff/s. I have them both on DVD and have watched them many times. I would love to be in on this.

My first preference would be River, because I am a tad crazy myself, I think I could do it rather well. But it seems that she's been taken. So if Kaylee hasn't been taken I'd love to be her too.

Ahren1, I've had a look over some of your recent posts and I agree you'd be a perfect Simon. I'm less inclined to cast you as Mal as I'd really like a more dominant writer for him. I'm very impressed by the quality of your posts. You're hired.

sjjustin, I know this decision is going to disappoint you and I'm sorry. Perhaps you'd like to play one or two supporting roles as we go along?

HopefulRealist, I've looked through your recent SRPs and all the posts are very brief. It makes me a little uncertain about casting you. Look over the kinds of posts that I write or take a look at Ahren1's work and tell me if you think you can handle writing like that.

SiaKlynn, your posts are also very well written and I'd love to have you as Zoe.

Lilybean, I looked over some of your posts and I think you'd make a great Saffron. I'm not sure how we're going to work her back onto the ship and keep her there for longer than 5mins but it'll be fun finding out.

bellassecret, I looked at your Hostage story and it was well written. I'd love to have you as Kaylee.

I've just had an idea... I found a bunch of ff/s icons/avatars on LifeJournal. If you don't know what they are, they are 100x100 pics from the show. I thought it might be fun to post a pic of your character when you're writing. What do you think?

If everyone likes the idea, I'll create a photobucket account, upload the pics, and give everyone the url so they can use whichever pic they like. There is quite a lot of them, so you'd be able to use different ones each post if you like.

When it comes to this forum, the skilled writers seem to be female more often than male. A lot of the guys who just come here looking for one sentence cyber threads could never write complex enough to handle a Firefly storyline, or at least they're not interested in trying.

Anyways, thanks for including me. I'll do my best to play Simon well. My offer to play Mal will stand if you end up not finding anyone, though. Writing is like acting for me really, so I'd also do my best to play him with what you had in mind, though it would be harder than playing Simon. Either way I'm content. I'm quite fond of Kaylee and the River/Simon interactions.

I'd also be able to take on various one-shot characters for jobs and such if you ever need.
