My problem with long stories is DOTTING I's and CROSSING T's.
No t a problem with 1000 words or 5000 words, but I get lost in 50,000 words.
For example, a clever paragraph about a trailer trash bar popped into my brain but I couldn't recall where the initial bar scene was. I move scenes around for best fit.
So what I do is store my nifty ideas in spaces atop the title, and use them when I come to the right place.
