Finding your stories on other sites

I recently was sent a link to http://wehasporn.com/list.php?selection=stories, which has anonymously reposted 9 of the stories that I wrote on here some years ago. I'm slightly annoyed at finding stories that I worked quite hard on appearing elsewhere without my name on (I myself have reposted stories on sites like lustylibrary and fictionmania, but that is with my name attached). Do other people find this happening? What can you do to stop other people putting your stories up elsewhere without informing or crediting you? I don't especially want these stories taken off this site, but I would like the credit due to me for writing them. It's this kind of thing that makes people wonder whether it's worth writing more stories.

If I find that one of my stories has been posted somewhere else I am flattered that someone though it was worth reposting. If the story receives good comments and a good rating, I am more flattered.

If you write a story for publication, and want to be paid for it, get it copywrited before you post it anywhere.

Yes. It happens to many of us. A PM to Laurel with details of the site and the stories can be useful, as can a complaint to the site itself.

Unfortunately anyone can do it to any story posted anywhere. All it takes is a right-click.

All the stories on that site are lifted directly from Lit's top lists.

I found some of my work on that site. Per their FAQ, I emailed them to let them know that they had my copyrighted material and provided a list of the links on their site. It was gone well within 24 hours.

It could have been worse - someone else could have been claiming credit for it as with what happened with one of mine. That took ages to resolve!

Thanks, that's probably what I should have done in the first place. I've emailed their contact address, so hopefully they can take my stories down.

Yes, I know that I should probably be flattered by this and just let it go, that would be the sensible reaction, but it annoys me to see my story taken away.

I have no illusions that my stories are good enough for publication or payment. I'm very happy to have them freely available on here. But, that's kind of the point, the only payment I ever want or expect to receive is credit for the writing I did and people's responses and feedback. If a story is reposted somewhere else without my knowing, I don't get that.

Yes, that has happened to me too and it was very annoying. Fortunately, I was able to point to how the story had been posted with its date on here years before the rip-off version elsewhere.

I also once had someone email me to tell me that my story had been stolen and passed off as someone else's work when it was actually me posting it on another site. Now that was genuinely flattering, the idea that someone reading cared about the work I'd done that much!

We had a thread some months back about one "Elizabeth Summers", who was stealing all-time Lit winning stories and selling them on Amazon. I e-mailed the true author and posted a review to one of the stolen stories, warning the public of the theft. Whether it did any good I don't know, but I got a kind e-mail from the author, Grand Master Sir_Nathan. This sad business did furnish me with a plot bunny, which became my story "The Sting", about a Chinese computer wizard who steals and sells Lit stories to fund her penchant for Marlboro Green cigarettes and exotic German wines.

I too have found my work reposted elsewhere, in the laziest of manners; it was just a simple copy-paste, leaving my author's note intact at the top of the page. It pissed me off, yes, but the worst part, to me, was that this particular author's note was highly complimentary- and indeed fawning- about my soon-to-be wife. Something about having someone else's name above my words for the woman I love was highly unsettling and enraging.

So of course I've done everything I could do-contacting Laurel and the site in question- do get it pulled down. I've also started signing my author's notes, in the hopes of avoiding anything like that in future.

There are several websites that crop up regularly under different URLs, names, and management, usually with owners in countries like Turkey, that directly lift content from Literotica to maintain as their own. Sometimes they keep author names attached, sometimes they don't. It depends on the program they use to port Lit content over. In all cases, there is no way for a reader to contact the author and permission is never asked (nor do they care to).

There are two things you can do. 1) Contact Laurel (PMs work) with the details. Laurel and Manu do what they can to shut these sites down. 2) File a DCMA complaint for copyright violation. Chillingeffects.org has a how-to on the process. You will have to reveal your real name and other details to the appropriate authorities because it is a legal action.

I have learned that ignorance is bliss. After being in your shoes a few months ago when I found every chapter of my series on another site. I did pm Laurel I did get a response that they knew the site and were working on it but another will just crop up.

The internet is a grocery store for shop lifters. I refuse to google my stories because if I find them on a half a dozen sites I will lose it so I just don't look.
