It was a 2 mile walk back to his home, a walk that on most occasions Jamie would enjoy as it followed the coast path along some of Devon's most beautiful shore line. Tonight was different. It was 11.45pm, very dark and a freezing cold gale force wind was blowing off the sea, making progress painfully cold and hard going. To make matters worse, it was starting to rain and Jamie had not long left his parent's home where he had been visiting, to make his return journey to his own home where his long-term 29 year old girlfriend, six years younger than him, was most likely all cosy in front of the tv watching Friends.
"Just my luck. Why didn't I order a taxi when I had the chance?", Jamie grumbled to himself, "Do I backtrack to my folk's and call a cab, or do I accept the fact I'm already cold and wet and just carry on home?".
Deciding the best thing to do was to just carry on walking home, Jamie picked up the pace and continued along the now lonely coastal route. The further Jamie travelled though, the worse the weather became and he was starting to regret making the decision.
"If I just get to the shelter near the benches at the next cove, at least I can rest for a while, wait for the rain to die down a little.", he thought to himself.
Within 10 minutes Jamie could see the shelter just at the bottom of the hill. The good thing about this shelter was that it was at right angles to the direction of the wind. At least in here, Jamie could get out of the rain, smoke a pre-rolled joint he always took with him for the journey and generally chill out for a bit before facing the second leg of his journey.
Jamie reached the shelter and made his way around to the open side where he knew there were benches within. Rounding the corner, he almost took a step back when he realised how dark it was inside. Miles from street lights and in shadow from any remaining moonlight it was virtually impossible to make out the benches. Still, he had visited this spot many a time and fumbled his way to a bench where he pulled his knees up tight against his chest to preserve what little warmth he had left and then continued to light up his spliff.
"Aahhh, almost makes the walk worth it", he said aloud to himself.
"Are you talking to me?", a girl's quiet, almost timid voice from the dark spoke out, startling Jamie and making him drop his spliff.
"Uhh, sorry, I didn't see you there", he blurted out. "It's pitch dark in here."
"Sorry to make you jump", the girl replied, "I thought you had seen me and were talking to me. Didn't mean for you to drop your cigarette."
"That's ok. My fault for not noticing you", Jamie piped up as he reached down and picked up his spliff from the floor.
As Jamie's eyes became accustomed to the dark he could make out the girl's form and some of her features now, sitting only 4 metres away. She looked too young to be out here, in this weather, at this time of night he thought.
"Are you sheltering from the weather?", he asked. "It's freezing out there".
"Yes. I got caught in the rain on the way back from my friend's house and decided to jump in here to stay dry. I don't have a coat and I'm freezing cold. The last thing I want to do is get soaking wet too. I've been here 20 minutes or so now I think."
"Can't you arrange to get your parents to pick you up? There is a bus stop half a mile up the road where they could pick you up. It's awfully late and I'm guessing you have school tommorrow.", Jamie said in a genuinely concerned manner.
"I don't have any signal on my phone so can't call my parents. Besides, I am 18 so am old enough to be out at night", she laughed.
"Sorry", Jamie replied, "just that you look younger in the dark. I thought your parents may be worried."
As Jamie looked at her more, he could make out her face quite well. She was beautiful. Dark hair down to her shoulders, lovely brown eyes, very kissable lips and under her thin top and tight jeans he could tell she had a body to die for. She couldn't be more than a size 6 or 8, 5' 2" tall, with a small but shapely bust and slender legs.
"You're shivering like crazy", Jamie said as he noticed her lips trembling and arms vibrating to warm herself up. "Would you like to borrow my coat for a while?"
"I'd love to", the girl said eagerly, "but then you'll be freezing and I'll feel guilty."
Jamie felt something stir, "Well... you could sit next to me and we can share the coat?", he half laughed, trying to sound like a joke but really being serious. He expected her to say no and so was very surprised when she moved up to him with only a little hesitation.
"I'm Jamie by the way." , he said as he slipped his left arm out of the coat and extended it out to her. Somehow, she managed to put her left arm in and then cuddle in against him. They couldn't do the front of the coat up but it kept the worst of the cold off them and they both instantly felt much better for the sharing of body warmth.
"Thanks, that's much better!", she beamed at him. "My name's Jane. I'm a student at the local college. Are you a student there too?"
Jamie laughed, "no, far too old for that, must be darker than you think. I'm actually 35, I'm a freelance designer."
"Ooooh, snuggling up with a man old enough to be my dad! What would my parent's say!", she joked.
"Umm, well, errr, I hope you don't think I'm being rude", Jamie spluttered, unsure if it was a good idea to be sitting so closely to a girl about half his age!
Jane laughed, "I'm only being silly! You're obviously a very nice man for sharing your coat and looking after me.", and as she said this, her right hand fell to Jamie's left knee, making his heart race. He wanted her. He wanted her badly!
