Yeah, sure, been keepin' busy working a hell-hole job down in DC but yesterday I landed the 'big one.' Big company, very decent bennies, 3 weeks vakay and 5 sick - and if I can work my incentives pretty good - well into 6figs.

Finally fucking damn. I thought there for a while I'd be greeting everyone at the front door of Wall Mart on Sunday mornings.

Only thing is - bitch of a commute - 45mins to an hour - Annandale Va to Lanham Md - it really blows but, but, but - I'm a Project Engineer - so all my projects are 'on-site' deals - and as long as I get my project done on time and on budget - I call my own hours - work out of the home - that sort of thing.

Finally, finally, finally!!!!! It's tough out there.

Looks like it's finally house hunting time for Sparky, the Shebabe and little AJ.

Just thought I'd keep you all posted. Even though most here (nowdays) don't even know who I am.

later - gators.

Way to go, Sparky!

Walk tall and work hard!

And save the Uber Sparky stuff for lit ;)

:D:D:D

congratulations sparky. i don't imagine there are a lot of jobs like that in your neck of the woods. what sort of projects are we engineerin' here?

Congrats Sparky....

So there is maybe hope for me also...just reading what you wrote. Has given me the hope that there is a decent good job out there for me also. Now I just have to find it hehehehe

And happy house hunting :)

Yeah I'm tellin' ya - I was getting a bit antsy.

Self doubt and everything. Beginning to think I'd made a huge mistake - selecting my profession in the first place. Beginning to think of changing professions and all. Thinking of investing in a sports bar with friends - God no! Thinking of actually playing music - fuck the hell no! Thinking of going back into the moving business - Atlas Van Lines where I still have friends. Not good stuff at 48.

And lots of my buddies are out of work too - hell, one of my former bosses and very good friend too - stole a fucking job from me over at the World Bank! Where I had people on the inside playing me up - fuck the fucking fuck.

Ow well - it's over for now.

Projects? Anything Audio Visual/Communications/Media oriented. As you may know - all technology is 'blending' - I take a 'sale' from the sales department and draw it up - put the equipment together - put an installation crew together and put the damn shit in and make it all work. Learning labs, meeting rooms, board rooms, security systems, clubs, movie theaters - you name it. Anywhere you combine images from video, stills, audio, computers, phones and all that stuff - into some sort of room - I could be 'building it out' - as we say. Managing - babying - the project along until it's done - on time and hopefully under budget. That's where I'll make (hopefully) my spiff - my take - my cut - my kick - my comp - my 'other' money. Some guys - if yer good and a bit lucky - double their annual that way.

It's okay. Lookin' forward to it.

Congrats, Sparks. Good to hear you're firmly back on your feet.

Congratulations. Glad to see you getting into something that you look forward to. Good luck. Keep us posted.

Congratulations, Sparky! You followed the typical pattern- the first job after a layoff is rarely the job you end up keeping.

I hope this one does end up being the job of your dreams. :)

Cheyenne

No, don't tell us that Cheyenne. Sparky isn't allowed to follow patterns, he sets them!

Good for you! Congrats.

I know what you mean about the commute... before i moved I commuted over an hour each way - for over a year. It pretty much sucked. Though I did listen to a lot of books on tape!
