Finally, an Olympic sport for those too obese to bowl.

Really!

I heard there are those who think snowboarding has no business being an olympic event and then I saw CURLING! What IS with that anyway?

Curling:

The only Olympic sport wherein an instrumental part of training is beer drinking!

:D

Back in the days before cable TV I was stationed up in northern Maine, Loring AFB. We got the Canadian channel.

I actually would sit and watch curling for hours on in. (They also got some kind of weird bowling they do too). It can become addicting. It is pretty bad when you know all the jargon of the game.

Curling is a sport? Doesn't they use a broom to sweep the ice? Sounds more like house work to me. ;)

Have a Pint, Throw a Rock...

Yeah, So... It's a national winter passtime. Or is it piss-time? :D

And, for the uninitiated, that curling stone, or "rock" is 20 Kilos (44 lbs.).

Putting it "on the button" - and THAT'S where the expression comes from, BTW, is not easy. Much more difficult than TEN-pin... :D

LOL

It's not as easy as it looks. Try playing it sometime, then tell me it doesn't belong. You'll see!

too funny Writerdom - but

It is much harder than it looks and to be honest I do not see any of the top curlers as even being over weight let alone obese.
They have to be in pretty good shape at that level.

Curling is fun! Really - try it someday, it's pretty difficult.

And who says that something including aiming, arm strength and strategy isn't a legitimate sport?

I was just fooling, curling is interesting to watch and it does require some skill. So, I guess that would qualify it as a sport. Not too interested in trying it though, I'll stick with ice hockey.

I liked curling better before they changed the style of the brooms. I loved those "floppy" brooms. The new brooms don't make any noise.

They also don't leave bits of straw in the ice. Those things could alter your shot to a remarkable degree. Although, it did look and sound funnier.

first time i tried curling i ended up in the bulls eye before the curling stone did.... i sorta managed to lose balance and slide face front over the ice :D

it is difficult but lots of fun,... especially polishing the ice with the broom :)

God, i AM sad.

Halo :rose:

Brooms?

Absolutely. I had a "Beaver-Tail" w/ a vinyl flapper in mine. :D

Well, I don't know......

Maybe I need to check curling out further, but right now I say, hey, WD, wanna go look at some artwork? That's a helluva lot more exciting to me! Especially the DarkSecret site.

mix bocci ball, darts and shuffleboard...

and play it on ice with a big friggin rock...i find it thrilling to watch

it's an ancient sport...maybe the oldest of the games...ranks right up there with other scottish oddities like tossing boulders and tree trunks around...i guess in a land of rock and heather you have to find your fun wherever you can
