Finally! A local munch group!

It seems that there are some serious lifestyle activities in Ottawa, Ca.

I joined a yahoo group and immediately several people tried to refer me to NY groups that were several hours away. Much to their surprise, Ottawa is far more doable.

Miss T has decided she needs to get out into the real world in her search, even if it means an hour and a half drive to attend a function.

As isolated as I am, real life just hasn't been happening and my miserable real time experiences were generated vis a vis on line personal ads.

So, everyone, any advice? Words of warning as I venture out to my first munch in a couple of weeks?

That is good news, MissTaken.

There's an upstairs bar in The Market, the name of which escapes me just now, that, if not the munch location itself, would make a fine venue for cocktails. I believe it's the only "open, inclusive" bar in Ottawa in terms of labels. It's also quite dark inside with lots of metal and mirrors. Good late night ambiance.

Yes Ottawa has an active munch group, it is about an hour from me as well. I have not had the urge to attend, I was on a web site they supported and did check them out. I was under the impression that alot of the members were male(gay). but that a few were hetero couples. It did not appear to be a great place to find single submissives. I have no interest in public play or social interaction of this type, but I am sure many would find it welcome. They were meeting downtown on sparks srtreet above a restaurant I believe in a dance studio on sunday mornings once a month. The whole idea of munchs just never appealed to me. Good luck, please let me know if it goes well. I might have to venture there someday; just bite the bullet and do something different! You never know till ya go eh!

A munch is really little more than a dinner party attended by kinky folks. In more cases there is a minimum of protocol, it is just a chance to meet and greet (and of course, eat.)
The beauty of a munch is that it is the best place to go if you've never participated in BDSM socially, because you don't need to know much more than that you are interested in order to attend and fit in.

The scene in toronto is sort of divided into three main camps that don't interact; one is in the gay village and is mostly male, another is the downtown traditional leather dungeon/group thing with some suburban tourist swing elements and another is more gorean/middle ages and is more SWO centric....their full contact jousting fairs in the fall are tres cool.

There's a goth/vamp sex scene as well as some pagan/satan stuff too.... those lots have the most outrageous fun parties, though the vamps are quite pasty and the satanics dont dig it if they realize you're not really into the dark prince as much as their babes.

There used to be a munch at the foot fetish restaurant on king, but it's under new management so for all I know they're into elbows or something...ha...I used to go just to watch the foot play. Yummy food too.

That may be more to my taste. I am going to check it out.

The Ottawa group seems nice enough, but to date, I have received six invitations to poly situations and two Doms.

The funny part was that my intro that I posted wasn't even remotely worded as a personal ad.

i can't say as the links have been of much use, but i'm going to dig more through tghe information provided. can't hurt, itz just that the groups themselves are kinda... defunct... no longer at those sites. i suppose i could search google.ca for BDSM munch groups but to be honest i'm a bit afraid of what i'll come up with. i've learned to take the recomendations here as a little more reliable than random searches. i still have to think for myself, but i'm better off than out of nowhere. maybe i'll get the guts to check soon.

to be honest Lancecastor, i don't know where i'd fit into any of the scenes in toronto... but knowing what exists can certainly not hurt.
