Actually, that's one thing you want to be cautious of. If you find one cheap, it probably is cheap. Economical is a relative term and although a cheap wand isn't necessarily a bad wand, let the buyer beware. Maybe Ebay is an option, but I'm not really the one to ask. Murphy's law follows me around all the fucking time. So, I like to buy new, when I can.

Some older models have a waxy material in the capacitor and although they work fine, you can't use them for long periods of time. The wax gets hot and melts, and that wand won't work any more. How long can you use them at one time? I don't know. I've only heard the term "short durations" used.

Newer wands may not have that wax in the capacitor, but some people see that wax as a good thing. If the wax capacitor burns out, the coil is still OK. A capacitor is a pretty cheap replacement. Wax capacitor proponents say that's a kind of safety valve, because if the capacitor is not wax (there are several different kinds of cpacitor made), when the wand quits, it's probably the coil that's damaged. That's the main part of the wand.

That might be true, but there are no time limits on session use with any kind of capacitor, except a wax capacitor. The way I see it, with "normal" use, a well made wand should last a long time. What I mean by normal use is not using it at a high level for long periods of time.

Even a wax cap wand could be just fine, if you don't leave it on a long time. I like to change my attachments occasionallly, and you have to turn the wand off for that. Give your sub a break every 10-15 minutes or so, and I think a wax cap wand would probably be OK. Now, I'm not an expert on how long is too long, so don't hold me to that time. I'm just saying if you get the wax film in a wax capacitor too hot, it will start to melt.

The older the wand, probably the more powerful it is, too. But, that doesn't mean it's any better, because it's more powerful. They just make them less powerful today, so they tend to last longer. Personally, I don't know why a wand would need to be more powerful. Mine is not quite 10 years old and so it is relatively new. I have never had it turned up all the way and I don't think I ever will. Its intensity is just fine at low settings. When it is used like I use it, the shock is probably 80% mental and 20% physical. :D

When it comes down to it, all electronic toys will eventually stop working. How someone uses them has a lot to do with how long they will last. If you use something a lot, that life is shortened, just like a light bulb will last longer, if you don't turn the light on. But, that's no fun, is it?

Also, with intense use, any wand will burn out sooner than if you keep the intensity dial turned down. You can brand someone with a wand, but it would require the intensity to be set very high for a pretty long time. I wouldn't want to do that with my wand, even though it's less likely to be damaged than one with a wax capacitor.

There are a lot of misunderstandings about violet wands. A lot of that is because they have existed for many years. There are things on the Interenet about them, that is no longer true. Electricity in general has been made safer, in the last 50 years, alone. New safety measures are always being introduced. That has changed many electrical things, including wands and TENS units.

There are now bi-polar TENS units that allow them to be used above the waist. Not too long ago, that was very dangerous. Of course, it is still very dangerous with a single pole TENS.

Anything electrical is going to be better, if you find one that isn't too old. It just stands to reason it will be more efficent because of the more recent technical inovations in place when it was made. It could very well be a better value for your money because something that's older has been used, and you don't know how it was taken care of.

And, everything electrical has electricity flowing through its internal parts and as those internal parts get older, as well as the cords and plugs, they are more likely to fail. That's not just a money issue when talking about these devices. That's also a safety issue. Frayed cords or exposed wires, can end up damaging the unit itself, and they can also damage you. An internal failure will probably disable the unit competely, but if it has been mistreated in the past, there is the chance it could allow dangerous levels of current to go where it isn't suppse to go.

Most TENS units I've seen are not AC powered. Most of them are battery powered. But, some are, and the same would be true with an older model TENS, if it plugs into an AC wall socket. It could give you a bad zap.

Use common sense, as you would with any electrcail purchase, but this isn't like buying a used TV or stereo. They will be in contact with the naked flesh of your partner. Don't go on price alone. There could be a bad reason that price is so low.

Flesh hooks in my chest

(can't get to sleep tonight)
I saw a Rippley's show once about a year ago. They were going for the record for a human mobile. But, this was not just any mobile. These people had hooks put in their backs and they were suspended from the mobile that way. Both men and women participated.

I forget how many of them there was, but there were quite a few. The mobile was lifted up by a crane and they hung there, for longer than I wanted to watch. I forget actually how long (maybe I'm mentally blocking it) but I think it was for about 10 minutes or so to be a valid record.

Everything was medically clean and totally safe, but I'm not a needle, knife or flesh hooks kind of person. Yuck.

I remember watching "A Man Called Horse" years ago. Back then, I had no idea any of that was possible or even likely. Yuck, again! :D

EDITED to add...
To each his/her own. I'm not even into piercings, either.

I LOVE giving subs their first experience with new things that excite them. It's a thrill beyond belief to see them squirming and whimpering, etc. ...and obviously enjoying it all for the very first time.

I  newbies. :D

I've seen them used in person, am no londer living close to that community :( :(

PS - I have 9 piercings.
Pss - I liked what you posted about zap play. I support every thing you stated.

I have always wanted to try...

...outdoor bondage. I'm fairly good with woodworking (no pun intended), and I have this idea for a little outdoor bondage frame thing that would double as a sort of shady little spot to sit outside so that friends and family who don't know won't be grossed out. Talking the wife into it shouldn't be too hard, either.

Sensory deprivation play---It's quite interesting. You can experience the same things you normally do, but they are quite different when you are in such a deprived condition. I love how subs enjoy the new experience, even though it is not that new. They are totally aware of what is happening, because that's all they are aware of.

The earplugs are not that easy to accomplish. I've tried wax plugs, that seem to work, unless the play is vigorous and she starts to sweat. Then, those plugs can slide out. The basic foam are OK, but they don't close out all sounds, just loud ones. Swimming ear plugs seem to work best, but they aren't that comfortable to wear (like I care-LOL). And, if you want, you can tray headphones, playing white noise or some form of music. That works OK, but if she shakes her head too much, they can be tossed off. Duct tape, maybe? LOL.

I would have any couple who feel their sex life is on the skids try this type of play. It will add some spice to that dull desire. One thing to be aware of is this...because the sub has no real way to communicate, be sure you decide on something to replace your safe word. Some physical movement of some kind works, unless your sub moves a lot normally.

Some use a set of keys that if they are dropped, she's signalling you to stop. That's the only problem I see with this kind of play. It might not be that she thinks the play is too hard..she could have a cramp or be choking, etc. Don't think that because you are a long time couple, that you don't need some kind of communication in this situation. But, after you figure that out, this is a lot of fun for both partners. :D

The Sabian---I would LOVE to have one of those. Oh, and a sub to go with it. Of course, I would have to be in charge of the controls and she would be bound to it, and probably be spending a nice Sunday afternoon that way. I wonder...do they come with anal attachments, too? :p

The violet wand---I LOVE my violet wand. Of course, it's electroplay and some have a phobia against it, thinking they can get hurt or even electrocuted. That's possible with some electroplay, when you don't know what you're doing, but if you know what you're doing, all of the play devices out are safe. And, when you think about it, that is true with most BDSM play. If you are a new Dom, you could really hurt someone with a cane. The last time I looked, there is no electrical plug on a cane.

But, if anyone does get the chance, a violet wand...or even a TENS for that matter...is a very interesting toy. And, it doesn't always have to be painful, either. There are intensity dials on them and at low settings, that tingle is very interesting, in those little sensitive spots of a woman's body.

Unfortunately, I haven't used mine in a while. Winter is coming...surely there's a willing sub out there that would like me to keep her warm with my electrical toys. Seriously, electroplay is fun. The different items out are expensive, but in the hands of an experience user, the sensations are...well...sensational.

Or you could go deaf like me :D

Ok, maybe that's a bit extreme, eh...

Anyhow, blindfolds used to be a limit of mine due to my deafness. The idea of taking away both my hearing and my site was far too much for me to handle, since my biggest fear in life is going blind. However, this is a limit my Domme pushed, and it is an incredible experience for me now to be blindfolded because I can reach a level of hearing-deprivation naturally that can't really be re-created even with the best of earplugs I imagine. So I can really sink very deep into a space of focusing only on the other sensations being given that it's almost frightening sometimes.

Love it.
