Fifty Shades Style of Writing

I just started reading this series and found a couple of good ideas I think would make for a better story next time I write one. The author seems to include surprise, and mystery with unanswered questions to entice the reader to read on. I also like the flow of the story.

What techniques do you think the author uses to create such an interesting read?
