What do you ladies say about the popular new book, Fifty Shades of Grey? Did you like it? Do you see yourself in the story? Give us your unguarded thoughts!

I can't wait to see the responses to this. My lover thinks it's not very good.

It is a poorly written piece of garbage. It does the real lifestyle of BDSM a disservice.

It got horrible reviews on Amazon. I'm not going to waste my time reading it.

Those are my thoughts exactly. Generally I compare the number of good reviews to bad reviews, and this trilogy has WAY more bad reviews than good. Not wasting my time or money.

My girl read them, her only comment on it was she was really glad she borrowed the books and not purchased them herself! I say that says a lot lol :p

I've only read a bit but already I think it makes Twilight look like Romeo and Juliet. I think it even started as fanfic to Twilight.

I'll probably keep going, but only so I can have a laugh at it's expense!

If I remember right, it did. I have no desire to read it.

I read the trilogy and enjoyed it for the quick read it was. It had it's moments that were definitely emotive for me. Everything doesn't have to be so accurate or so serious all of the time.

I agree it was a fun read. Lots of crazy sex. Personally, no I didn't see myself in the book Asgard character but it sure got me horny!

I read it during the week. If I'm honest, I found it a bit of a rip off of Anne Rices' Exit to Eden.
A very poor rip off at that! Might go see the movie, depending on what Hollywood Hottie is cast as the male lead.

I read the trilogy in boredom and with hopes that it would get better.. It never did.

I actually loved it. It made me want to try that lifestyle whereas before I had never considered it before. Still haven't tried it though ;)

And this response is exactly why I hated it. DO NOT base anything regarding "that lifestyle" on what you read in that book. It's garbage.

Oh, and welcome to Lit. You might want to hang out on the BDSM boards and read around in there before you start trying to define "that lifestyle." :rose:

Eek! Fanfic to twilight?! That's like saying "homemade homage to plan 9 from outer space"...
The general critique of those who I know that actually read books (plural) said they loathed it. I'm gonna trust you all and stay away from them.

I haven't read the book, but I got a text from a gf of mine the other night... She was just getting into town, and as she landed at the airport she alerted me that she had been reading it, she was horny, and I should go to bed naked and with the door unlocked. ;)
Later that night she slipped In bed with me and fucked me good!
:D

Loved it, but ...

I can see how many people hated it. It's like a Harlequin romance novel on steroids. Suspend any thoughts of reality.

Harlequin Romance 101 vs. Fifty Shades Trilogy:
HR: heroine is a gorgeous virgin.
FS: Anastasia Steele is a gorgeous 21 yr old virgin.

HR: hero is a gorgeous, wealthy rogue.
FS: Christian Grey is a gorgeous 27 yr old billionaire who has never had a girlfriend and does not like to be touched (bare skin to his torso). "I don’t make love. I fuck… hard."

HR: storyline. Boy changes because of Girl's love.
FS: Christian is "Fifty Shades of Fucked Up" but within 5 months of meeting Ana: he makes love, let's Ana touch him and marries her.

... I kinda' knew some of this and thought the books would be lame. It's weird though, as much as I think the book outline is ridiculous ... I loved the romance aspect and totally LOVED the books.

Split Opinion

Her: Ugh -- so totally not real!
Him: Not bad -- it's fantasy romance and the BDSM is fantasy too.

PS: He thinks the author is really female, despite the jacket note.

I read them. IMHO - It's fluffy, pink kink. It's BDSM for people who want to think they understand it, but can't handle the real thing.

I wouldn't want a woman who needs to read a book to learn how to have sex.

S & M amatuer

I'm rather naive to the whole bdsm stuff..i enjoy my fair share of rough sex but have no experience or knowledge of this lifestyle. The topic intrigues me and i figured the book would enlighten me on the subject.:rose:
