So I've been slowly submitting a series here. For the most part it's finished, but recently I kinda took a detour.
My latest chapter is not getting very good ratings :/ which is sad. I know it's a very slow moving story, and yeah there hasn't been any sex in the past few chapters, but I figured by now, chapter 14, the people still reading didn't mind that it was slow moving and that there hasn't been much sex lately...but I guess they've all changed their minds or are thinking, this story needs some sexy time NOW!

So I'm checking to see if the ratings are maybe slowly going up, or heading south still and see I have a new comment. I check my story hoping for some insight to why the low rating on this chapter, but don't see a comment. I click the new comment link and it is a new comment for an old story.
Someone left me a really nice comment on my Serendipity story.
Needs to be a movie.
Find a literary agent and turn this beautiful, sad story into the movie it deserves to be. You did a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life and making their interactions so genuine.
Great story.
I loved it.

This was for one of my favorite stories I've written, Serendipity. I wrote it a few years ago and while it is one of my favorites, I know if I go back and read it I'll cringe at some of the writing. It's one story I would go back and clean up if I had the time. Maybe I will one day...

Anyway, it was nice to get this sweet comment when I was feeling down for my other story.

Anyone else love getting feedback on an older story?

Hey, nice comment!

I continue to be surprised when older stories keep getting faved, and the occasional comment arrives. It's good, it means people are wandering through my whole story file.

I do. Each of my early stories was a key stepping stone in my development of as a writer. I look back at them and go, "This was the first story where I did X". So I enjoy one of my older stories getting some recognition.

A lot of those comments mention my other stories. For example:
Powerful Women!
I've read 4-5 of your stories. I keep coming back to your bibliography for another. Tempo, plot, dialogue all first rate. Extremely readable.
Thanks for your hard work!

It's funny; a lot of my older stories (anywhere from 5-10 years ago!) still get favorited or an occasional comment. I had my latest story favorited by several readers but no comments yet (no big deal about the latter but it's great when I see story comments though).

I'm in process of finishing another submission, cleaning up the draft a bit and working on a title. Hopefully it will be up sometime next week (estimated guess) if I submit it by this weekend.

We were, at six years old, proud of learning to ride our bicycle. Should we now feel embarrassed? Hardly. One should always be proud of one’s in-context achievements.
Pay attention to what TP says - have you seen the avatar? ;).

I enjoy receiving feedback on older stories, especially for my less popular stories. I especially like getting an enthusiastic comment because they are so rare.

Awh, such a generous and satisfying compliment!! I say take the advice and find a literary agent!

I'm not near the polished writer that you are . I have a busy private life and a very full professional life. I write strictly for fun and relaxation, sharing from my life experiences and would never consider attempting to become a professional writer.

Something I learned from a mentor many years ago was to satisfy yourself first. If you're happy with your efforts, it really doesn't matter what others think. I've learned also that many of those that read your work don't comment at all, even if they like it. It's very nice to have nice things said even if it's one nice comment for every 3,000 people that read your work.

Good luck to you! Keep hitting it and putting your quality work out there and good things will come from it.
