I think Liar originally posted a link to this fetish map some years ago, and if you haven't seen it, it's worth a look. Not only have some new of fetishes been added ("Cars Stuck In Mud" and "Bug Seekers" seem new to me), but the sheer scope and variety of the things that turn some people on is pretty amazing. Wet shoes? Bad breath? Gas Pedal Pumping??

The author of the Map (and as far as I can recall it was part of someone's academic thesis) put considerable effort into trying to organize all these fetishes into some kind of logical system, but I don't know how well that worked out. Is a robot/doll fetish really a version of Object Transformation? Or is it a form of control? Is a fetish for robots even similar a fetish for dolls? Shouldn't a Lycra fetish be down there with latex? And doesn't incest deserve it's own category?

Anyhow, it's pretty fascinating. If you're stuck for an idea for a story, you can always close your eyes and just point.

He must be the same guy who designed the NYC transit system map. Even the station names are the same.

An interesting chart but incomplete in many way and it has a bunch of stuff I've never heard of in BDSM.

Maybe the incomplete part is just subcategories of something already on there butt.... Interesting no less.

Jesus Christ! I've heard of crap eaters and piss drinkers, but getting off on farts, phlegm, snot, burps and toe jam? I'm sorry, those people are fuckin' sickos.

So they added bug chasers, what a world.

I'd like to see a real map, one of those connectivity things they had early on to track internet traffic.

I think OK Cupid did something like that recently.

Ah, here's a story on it anyway: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/02/14/which-neighborhood-has-th_n_822778.html

I thought she (the woman who made the chart) might have been taken in by some of the proposed fetishes, so I went to google to see how many "gas-pedal pumpers" groups or references there could possibly be. Joke's on me. I came up with 318,000 hits and they all seem erotic. There are videos of girls pumping gas pedals in heels or stockings or barefoot. Cars, planes, and boats. Forums to discuss gas-pedal pumping. Pay sites where girls will pump that pedal just for you.

Who knew?

The thing I don't like about her chart is that the organization feels wrong and so doesn't present a taxonomic system that might explain or shed light on these fetishes. For example, I've seen another taxonomy of fetishes which included categories like, "Skin modificiation" to cover latex, leather, rubber, fur; even oil, mud, and dirt. "Body modification," comprised of things like gigantism, giant body parts, etc.

I find these things fascinating and I'm always trying to imagine what the erotic appeal might be in something like 'looning or plushies. Sometimes it gets pretty tough.
