Festaroo!

The Festaroo Music and Arts Festival is held every year on a farm in the middle of Kentucky. Over a hundred thousand people show up, and a sprawling tent city is erected all around the main festival grounds. Inside, you can find half a dozen stages, upon which some hundred bands will play over the course of four days. There is a huge main stage, with a crowd area large enough for all the festival-people. There are a number a vendors situated on "shakedown street", selling posters, clothes, jewelry, food and drinks, all kinds of crazy shit.

Beers are expensive (like going to a ballgame), but there are plenty of other ways to get wrecked and have a great time. Marijuana is smoked openly all over Festaroo, and any other mind-altering substance you might desire can be acquired if you know who to ask, or even just keep your ears open. There are a number of small-time drug slingers roaming, hawking weed, shrooms, blow, LSD, ecstasy, and they can usually put you in touch with the guys who have opium, heroin, and meth. It's fairly easy to bring your own stuff in, as you are allowed to park your vehicle at your campsite (but it can't go anywhere till Festaroo is finished) and they can't possibly inspect every vehicle that comes through.

As far as this thread is concerned, it is completely open to everyone. Festaroo never ends. Another band is always getting on stage. It can be anyone you want.

So singeth the Grateful Dead:
See that girl, barefootin' along,
Whistlin' and singin', she's a carryin' on.
There's laughing in her eyes, dancing in her feet,
She's a neon-light diamond and she can live on the street.

Hey hey, hey, come right away
Come and join the party every day.

Well everybody's dancin' in a ring around the sun
Nobody's finished, we ain't even begun.
So take off your shoes, child, and take off your hat.
Try on your wings and find our where it's at.

Hey hey, hey, come right away
Come and join the party every day.

Take a vacation, fall out for a while,
Summer's comin' in, and it's goin' outa style
Well, lie down smokin', honey, have yourself a ball
Your mother's down in Memphis, won't be back 'till the fall.

Hey hey, hey, come right away
Come and join the party every day.

Lilly came a long way for this festival, she'd been waiting for it for months. On her second year at Philadelphia University, she was majoring in Photography but also an avid painter. She hoped not only to enjoy endless hours of music, but also to show off some of her art.

Stepping out of the cab, grabbing her back-pack and and tote bag filled with painted canvas, Lilly looks around, smiling, happy to finally be here. Walking closer to the stage, past endless tents and people, she found a clear spot, threw her stuff down and collapsed into the grass. Slipping off her sandals, Lilly reaches into her back pulling out a joint she had already rolled for the kick off of this occasion. Lighting it up, and taking her first slow hit, she lays back into the grass. This is going to be the most extraordinary weekend of my life, she says out loud to herself. Finally letting the smoke leave her lungs, she begins to tap her foot along to the sweet sound of Grateful Dead playing.

Tommy

Tommy got off the bus and found himself at Festaroo. Finally! With his pack on his back and a fat joint sitting behind his ear, he found a small spot to set up his tent (not that he was planning on using it much) near the entrance to the main festival grounds. He was quick to make friends with all the campers around him.

Tommy was a musician and an artist, specializing in psychedelic rock and glass-blowing. He came to Festaroo to bask in the pure joy of the amazing live music that was about to get started, and also to sell some custom-made hand-blown glass hashpipes. He had a small black case, padded on the inside, full of the little pipes.

He left his tent, his pack (now significantly lighter) slung over his shoulder, and made his way to the stages. He could hear that bouncing beat, it was calling him on, he couldn't resist it. His feet were tapping; he was practically skipping.

Appearance: Tommy is about 5'10, with long thick curly brown hair and brown eyes. He has a good tan going and has a skinny build. He's wearing a long skirt and tee-shirt, both tie-dyed.

Lilly sits up, and grabs a blanket out of her back pack. Standing, taking another long hit, she spreads the blanket out, and standing in the middle of it. Releasing the smoke, she starts to spin around in a circle with her arms stretched out, her face looking at the sun. She loves the feeling of her long brown skirt twirling out.

Lilly takes her sweatshirt off, leaving her in her backless tanktop which she made herself. Reaching back, she makes sure that the bow which holds it on is secure, and starts to make her way to the stage with her lit joint in hand.

Appearance: Blonde hair a bit past the shoulder which is nautrally wavy with a bit of a curl. 5'2, and obviosly on the petite side. Wearing a brown skirt that flows past the knee, and a tanktop that ties in the back-blue flowery print.

Tommy

Tommy finally found his way into the festival grounds. Keller Williams was doing his thing, *playing a grateful dead song? sweet!* Tommy wandered towards the stage. Along the way he got his joint lit and puffed on it, a cloud of sweet sweet weed smoke floating into the air above him as he made his bouncing way towards the main stage.

The sun was shining, Keller's acoustic madness was starting to really get out there, and Tommy was skipping along to the beat, his skirt flowing around him. This was the only time he could get away with wearing a skirt, and he sure as shit wasn't going to waste it.

The hot Kentucky sun shone through the smoke floating over his head. He was stage now; he could tell that Keller was wearing oakley sunglasses. He leaned back and tapped his feet as Keller made beautiful love to his acoustic guitar.

Finishing her joint, Lilly makes it almost to the stage, and cannot contain her smile. Keller Williams was infront of her. Shutting her eyes, she starts to dance along with the beat, feeling the sun on her back.

There are so many people here, Lilly cannot wait to make some friends. She's typically rather shy, but with the start of a high, and the excitement of the festival, she wonders over the a group dancing, and moves her way right in, being easily accpeted.

Anna

Anna finished pitching her tent with ease, her eyes sparkling excitedly behind the sunglasses. She pushed her long dark hair out of her face as she hummed along to the music.

Keller Williams was a great artist, but not someone she was in a huge hurry to see, especially in her drugged haze, having just finished her second joint for the day. She was waiting for later- Les Claypool, Buckethead, The Flaming Lips. Later was when there would be glowstick wars and crazy jams that lasted until 1 am.

Anna pulled out the large wooden box that held her hemp and beads- she was an aspiring jewelry-maker and artist, specializing in clay and glass beads, as well as pottery. She had brought along a large amount of hemp, beads, and finished necklaces, hoping some of them would sell.

She sat on the ground outside her tent, lazily knotting her hemp with a cigarette dangling out of her mouth.

Appearance: mid-back length dark hair, naturally wavy, 5'4'', bright blue eyes, slim with nice curves, wearing a purple floor-length handmade patchwork skirt and a white tank top with plenty of hemp necklaces and large white-framed sunglasses

Tommy twirled and swirled about, his long skirt flowing, his long hair bouncing as he puffed on his joint and got totally into Keller's jam.

More and more people were showing up, filling the grounds, bouncing to Keller's groove.

As he was dancing along, he bumped right into the cutest little blond girl he had ever seen.

"Oh my, I'm sorry, honey." He puffed on his joint, pulled it from his mouth and offered it to her. "Here," he said, and smiled at her.

Smiling, Lilly takes the joint out of his hand, and hits it. Slowly moving her hips, to the music as she lets the smoke fill her lungs. She exhales, and extends her hand, "Hi, I'm Lilly."

Trying not to be obvious Lilly admires this man who just bumped into her.

Tommy

"Hi, Lilly, my name is Tommy. Nice to meet you all," he said, waving to the crowd she was dancing around with. He took another puff on the joint before passing it back to Lilly. "Just pass it around," he whispered as he handed it to her. He reached into his backpack and pulled out his black case.

"Anybody need a sweet glass piece?" he asked, and opened his case for them to see his wares. Most of the pipes were normal sized, with big bowls and intricate, colorful designs blown into the glass. He had a couple of larger bubblers and several smaller one-hitters.

"I got the stuff to fill 'em, too, if you need..." he said. He flashed a smile at Lilly, and couldn't figure out if he wanted to keep his eyes on Keller's wicked guitar work, or Lilly's sexy little body...

Lilly takes the joint from Tommy, hits it and passes it on.

"Where'd you get these pieces, Tommy?" Lilly askes with a smile. They're fantastic with color, and they're almost as good looking as the guy standing infront of her.

"I've got some herb too, so you don't have to use all of yours." She says, looking into his brown eyes, smiling slightly. Lilly turns towards the stage, as the joint gets back to her, she takes a long hit and thinks to herself, "there is something about him.." Feeling her high start to come on, Lilly shuts her eyes and turns her face towards the clouds. Smiling she says outloud, "this is fabulous."

Tommy smiled, holding his hit in for a long time. He coughed finally, letting the smoke blow out in a cloud above his head. When she asked him where he got the pieces, he said: "I made them myself."

He was happy to hear that Lilly had some herb too. "Well, hey, after Keller's finished we should pack us up a bowl or roll us up a jay. I'm easy." He flashed her that smile again, and a wink.

Keller was just getting into his song "Bob Rules", which is about falling asleep in front of the tv while the price is right is on, and having a dream that you're the next contestant. The whole crowd was bouncing and cheering.

When Lilly learned Tommy had made the pipes himself, she was shocked. "They're fabulous. You must be so talented, blowing glass is not easy."

"I'm definatly up for packing a bowl, we can use my stuff, it's some pretty good jane." Lilly flased him a smile.

Keller started to play Lilly's favorite song, so she was excited. She started dancing again, hands above her head, moving her hips, twirling in circles, her blonde hair flowing.

Tommy

"I've been blowing glass for about five years now. I'm still learning something new all the time, but I really like it a lot," Tommy said. He bounced with Lilly to Keller's tune, along with all the other heads in the audience, until the song was over and Keller's time was up. He said goodbye and carried his guitar offstage, and Tommy turned to look at Lilly again.

"Tell you what," he said. "Let's smoke your grass in one of my pipes. I think we got a good half-hour or so before Bela Fleck and the Flecktones come on. Is this your blanket spread out here? You want to wait for the bluegrass or should we go in search of something harder?"

"Yeah, I've got some purple, but not much, and I've got plenty of pretty good herb." Lilly said looking at Tommy.

"After we smoke, lets go search for something a bit harder, I'm not so sure I'm in the mood for bluegrass."

Lilly put her arm around Tommy's so that they were linked, and she lead him towards her blanket and backpack, smiling.

"So, where are you from?"

They got to her blanket and backpack and took a seat, watching the roadies move equipment around on the main stage. She asked him where he was from, and he said: "St. Louis. Ever been? You should. If you do, give me a call, we'll go see some sweet psychedelic music. I try to keep afloat of all the sweet shows round town."

He pulled his personal pipe, a fat glass sherlock, out of his bag and handed it to her. He smiled to himself; this girl seemed really cool. And she was way hot... and the way she held onto his arm, and the way he felt so comfortable with her there, made him think that maybe something deeper was going on.

"Where are you from?" he asked her.

Sitting down, with her legs crossed under her, Lilly reaches into her backpack, pulling out a bag of weed. Taking the pipe from Tommy she starting packing it with grass. "..St. Louis, ever been?" He askes her.

''No, sadly I haven't. I will however, try to get out there now." She smiles and looks up from her tast, at Tommy. His smile kills her, makes her heart beat a bit faster. She looks away, and starts to pack the bowl again.

"Me, I'm from Philadelphia..going to Art school there..ever been?"

Finshed packing, she grabs the lighter,
"Since you're the guest, you're first hit." She smiles, extending the bowl and lighter to him.

Tommy

"You are too kind, thank you. No, I'm afraid I've never been to Philly. One of my friends just moved there, though, so now I have even more of an incentive to head east." He took the loaded pipe and lighter from her and lit the bowl, trying to be careful to keep some of the nuggets green for her first hit. He always thought it was rude to burn the whole top of the bowl when you're given greens.

He took a deep hit, sucking on it a couple times, holding the smoke in, handing the pipe over to Lilly. A purple haze was creeping over his mind, clouding things up a bit... he smiled. The deep purple was a rare find in St. Louis; he'd only ever had it before when a buddy from San Francisco came into town.

He coughed, the smoke rushing from his lungs, and he coughed a few more times, before finding a water bottle and sucking down some of the chilly wet water.

Lilly smiled as she watched Tommy hit the pipe. She loved watching people's reaction after the first hit.

Taking the pipe from Tommy she lights it, and inhales the smoke slowly, and until she can inhale no more. Lilly holds the smoke in her lungs, feeling it hit her in almost slow motion. She begins to exhale, and started coughing. Grabbing her water she takes a swig and hands Tommy the pipe. Finishing coughing she lays back on the blanket, arms over head, smiling, staring at the clouds.

Tommy

He took another hit, holding it deeply again, this time better, no cough, and he laid on his back next to little Lilly. "I think there's another hit left," he said, through the smoke, still holding in his hit, until finally he blew it out, straight towards the sky.

Big, puffy, gentle white clouds were floating by above them. They weren't threatening rain. Not yet, anyway. His mind wandered for a moment, as Lilly took the pipe from him, but then his leg touched hers and he looked over at her. She was concentrating on her hit.

She was beautiful.

Lilly sits up, takes the last hit, sets down the pipe, and lays back down next to Tommy. Holding the hit in, she looks at him and smiles through the haze in her mind. She looks back up at the sky and slowly blows her smoke, imagining it getting closer and closer to the clouds. She looks back at him, and just watches him admire this gorgeous sky.

She softly, and slowly touches his hand. "Do you see that cloud..", she points, "That one that looks like a flower?"

Tommy

Her hand was on his, and she was pointing at the clouds. "Yeah, totally!" he said. "Wow, it's a rose! I've never seen anything like it! Look at it, it's blossoming in slow motion."

He turned his hand over, and their open palms touched. Their fingers intertwined, almost without them thinking about it. Tommy's heart raced. Something deep inside was telling him he'd found someone special. He kept his eyes on the sky, smiling, happy that he met this delightful young woman early on in the festival, before he was totally out of his mind.

This high was better than drugs, he thought for a moment, before rolling his head to the side and looking at her again. He took a moment to enjoy the view of her lithe body, on her back, her blond hair, sprawling across the tie-dyed blanket, her fair skin...

This was definitely going to be the best Festaroo ever!

Lilly loved the way his hand took her's in. She loved the way she could feel him finally. She smiled, still looking at the clouds, "that's absolutely wicked."

She felt him turn him his head towards her, and she felt her heart skip a beat. She had never felt this way about someone she hardly knew. She turned her head, and starred at his eyes.

"Your eyes are the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen." She squeezes his hand and laughs a little. "..and that's a pick up line."

"Who else is playing today?"

Tommy

"Who else is playing today?" she asked.

"Have you heard of Oysterhead? Les Claypool, Trey Anastasio, and Stuart Copeland are doing this crazy psychedelic power trio thing, and they're playing after Bela Fleck, on this stage. That's still a ways off, though. We could go see who's playing on the other stages, though. You never know who you're gonna see!"

"Of course, we could go get a beer or two from the cooler at my tent. I got a pretty nice spot."

"Yeah, I'd love a beer, and then we can wander and see who's playing" Lilly sits up, and slips her sandles back on. She grabs her bag of herb, and rolls it back up. "Do you have a pocket, incase we need this later?" She smiles, as she slowly stands up. Extending her hand, she helps him up, but refuses to let go of his hand.
