Is anyone into it? lol.

My stepmom got into it a little a few years back, but she's basically no help to me now. She doesn't remember anything about it, lol.

I've googled it, and been to more sites than I can count.

So I guess my question: Does anyone get into that?
And if ya do, do ya have any sites that are 'must reads'?

I'm going to go and look for a book this weekend, but I thought maybe I could avoid that because of the information super-highway, lol.

Everyone at work, and my boyfriend and best friend think I'm nuts.
I don't wanna fuck up my chi, lol.

Thanks in advance for any replies!

As your googling revealed, there are lots of people who are "into" feng shui. Most of them I think are into it for the money to be made from gullible people who don't want to disrupt their "chi." :p

Giving some consderation to the principles of Feng shui certainly won't hurt anything if you're going to be rearranging and redecoraing anyway, but I cerainly woudn't consider feng shui a primary reason for making any kind of changes.

No more into that than any other religion. And probably even more suspicious of, because of the abundance of "false prophets", who make profit off passing bullshit off as the real deal. It's a spriritual teaching of sorts, a thing that's important to remember. And as such, agnostic that I am, I don't dismiss it. Just the westerners who try to sell a faith system as hard science.

And afaik there ARE long, solid traditions behind it, but with all the feng shui consultants, feng shui layman books and feng shui self help dvd's out there, contradicting each other, I wouldn't know where to turn for a credible autority.

My boyfriend and I are in the process of moving into our house, and we're still doing the cleaning it up and making it livable stuff. So it's not like I'm rearranging my whole house because my chi is outta whack, lol. :p
I guess I just find it interesting. Kinda like I won't light red candles if it's storming, because that brings the storm to you, lol. (I have a Candle Lighting Encyclopedia, lol. Hush. :p)
Anyhow, I don't plan on researching this extensively and planning my whole house around it, lol... it's like calling a pyschic- for entertainment only. :)
I guess I'm more interested in the colors and in which part of the house needs what color for what reason. *shrugs* I don't know. I'm just odd I guess. :p

Thanks for the input thus far guys. :)

You're not nuts! I've been a firm believer in feng shui ever since my boss did our office and it completely changed the way everyone in our staff behaved! They went from dysfunctional asshats to productive sweethearts in less than a week.

Now, home is another story. I live with a hoarder, in a house that is designed in a way that is defiant to a lot of the principles of feng shui. I try my best with what I've got. When you first move to a new house, that's definitely the best time to get a foothold.

I haven't visited a lot of websites, but my favorite book on the subject is Feng Shui For Dummies

Carson could probably tell you about colors too, I know he just painted recently and seemed to know what colors did what. :)

Religion? And here I simply thought it was a way to rearrange my furniture.

I like using the principles of Feng Shui
Colors while important are not as important as making sure your are not flushing your wealth away or burning up your health.
How you feng your home depends most heavily on where your front door is.
I am blessed that my front door is actually in my helpful people and travel spot :)
And my bedroom is in my partnership spot :)

A for instance of stopping chi loss in the kitchen...
If your back is to the room while cooking or washing put a mirror on the wall in front of you. It doesn't have to be big, but enough so you can see behind you.
Also put a mirror on the ceiling over all drains (sinks, tubs, washers, toilets) This prevents the chi from running out...being washed away... just a small one makes a difference.

IF after you have determined where your health is if its where perhaps your furnace is... you will want to place an image of water with it. A waterfall or ocean or whatever... something that symbolizes water whereever there is heat....

There are some really good resources out there and the best are written by the homelanders :) THe basic principles are sound and easy to follow.... its when you get into zodiacs and quads that get ya confused.....LOL

In the sense of decorating and arranging furniture, feng shui basically means being in harmony with the enviroment. That means matching the arrangement and colors of the room with what's going on in the room, keeping clutter down, and including lots of natural elements in your enviroment, like plants, small fountains, etc.

Muted, calming colors are best in low-energy rooms like bedrooms. A kitchen can be bright and energetic because it's a high-energy room. Like, yellow would be good for a kitchen and tan or soft green is good in a bedroom.

Beds should not be against a window, nor should you have the door behind you when you're lying in bed. Sofas shouldn't block a passage through the room. Living room furniture should be grouped in a circle to invite conversation (rather than pointing at the TV.) There shouldn't be a TV in the bedroom.

A "poison arrow" is something that disrupts the flow of energy in a room. In my house, it's the front door - it doesn't work, so we have to use the kitchen door, which is narrow and hard to navigate with anything large in your hands. I've tried to move the appliances back to create a better flow. That helps. The more "stuff" you have, the more difficult it is to have a good, open flow, and I think that feng shui is correct in that respect.

That said, the inhabitants of a house create its energy. My bedroom is yellow with a green cast and we don't find it disruptive at all. Whatever's peaceful, calming and pleasing to you creates good energy, and is good feng shui. :)

Cool beans guys. :) Thanks for replying. :)
It's funny Carson- my kitchen is yellow and our bedroom is tan, lol. It was just amusing those were the examples you gave. :)

Well, after I spent forever online on two million different sites, later, for shits and giggles, I got out my Dictonary of Superstitions, lol. Looking up different colors, and just different keywords. It was amusing. Did you know that the foot of your bed should never been even with the door? it's bad luck because they carry a person out in a coffin feet-first. Creepy huh? lol. :p

My stepmom still gets an email every day or week from one of the sites, so she said she'd start forwarding that to me.
I guess other than buying a book (which the Dummie's book sounds good for me, lol) I'll just have to bits and pieces it together. :)

Thanks again everyone!
