I think it is partially due to the number of male writers in realation to female. I have been told i am pretty good at writing in a female voice, but i would have trouble crafting a scene that sounded real with a peeping woman.

There are all sorts of interesting social commentaries you could make about it though. That women are supposed to be "on display" in our cultures.
