They will poke and prod you in places you were never aware you had, and take all sorts of disgusting samples from your body with big sharp needles.

All in all, you'll be to bored with waiting between tests and filling out forms, that you won't mind anything they do to you.

Physicals aren't fun and there are going to be a few embarrassing moments -- for you, the doctors have seen it all before -- but they'll be far outweighed by the boredom.

How possible do you think it is if a 22 year old woman is so naive and kept in the dark that she does NOT know what a Dr.'s physical is, has never had one, yet she found the "advice column" of an ADULT STORY site?

Not to mention, using the phrase "going down" in any form makes most think of oral sex. So, I felt Tiki's question was: I wondered what they do, because I heard that they go down on you?

Does that seem like a "simple naive" WOMAN, not girl, to you?

This last comment is for both WH & Tiki...or anyone, really, who does and does not understand common sense.

From birth through my adulthood I have had various forms of physicals and check ups. There are certain grades in school (I think one of which is around 7th) where you cannot move on to the next school year without a physical. I doubt that is worldwide, of course, but I also doubt Nebraska-specifically Millard Public Schools in Omaha-is the only state in the nation to do this.

Also, baised on memory, never once did a Dr. go "downstairs on me" for a physical. I have only ever had an OB/GYN do an examination on me "down there". Never a MD. Never for a physical.

And, one last thing, if a woman is civilized enough to have a computer-or computer access-then surely she is not this naive? I believe most civilized humans/women know that one you become sexually active you also need to start the annual OB/GYN visits and paps.

Tikiwumon07, it is good that you wish to be prepared. Although for someone at your age it is hard to believe you have not had a physical. On the other hand it is not too far fetched either.

Being that in the USA you have to pay for health insurance it could happen when one is short on cash.

Here in Canada a physical entails the doctor checking out your, ears, nose, throat, eyes, lymph nodes (glands), stomach (pressing around it), colon, pap smear (as well as inserting a couple of fingers to feel for any abnormalities), weight, height, feel your scalp, reflexes, take blood samples and ask you questions. It may sound overwhelming but don't worry you'll be fine. The doctor is there to help you just remember that.

Hope this helps you and good luck on your physical, which i'm sure you do not need (the good luck that is).

I also choose to what for marraige for sex so i never have to go to and gynocologist. I just want to know what they do so i am not schocled by anything they do. Is that to much to ask?

I know this is a thread mostly for females, but I felt I had to throw in my two cents. To find a woman who is 22 and has never been for that type of exam is not all that amazing. I would say that at 30% of the women I know that are that age have never been. This young woman came to the board with an honest question looking for advice and instead of helping her, she has been attacked by the members here at lit. Tiki, I hope you get the advice you're looking for and please don't think badly of Lit based on this one experience.

I honestly thought that the people who were posting on this board were more open minded. I shouldn't lump everyone on here into one group b/c I've recieved some very nice comments and advice from many on here.

I may be off with my 30% estimate, but I don't feel that if a 22 year old woman has never been for a physical exam is a "backwoods swampwoman"! That's just plain rude. There are many young women out there who for one reason or another simply have not gone yet b/c they have not felt the need to, mostly b/c they are not yet sexually active. In my area in Canada, there was no mandatory exam in school as was posted in an earlier post. Tiki sounds like a woman, as I'm sure most of you were for your first exam, who is nervous and wanted some advice on what to expect. To attack her for that is wrong. Have a little compassion and open your minds. I've read countless times on this board that no two women are the same, why would this be different.

Finally, it was bad enough to attack a woman with a simple question, but to attack the women I know by calling them swampwomen just pisses me off.

Umm...I almost hate to stick up for this person, but I'm 25 with a bachellor's degree, graduated with honors and most definitely not from the backwoods swamps. Though I've been to the doctor on an average of, I'd say, 4 or so times a year for minor ailments, I too have never had a full physical.

alright, maybe i wouldn't term it that way... but michigan is part of the us last i checked the map and i find it even harder to believe you...

a checkup at the doctor (especially one that you regularly go to) is practically the same thing just informal and not certified with papers like a full physical can be...

besides... the girl is 22.

Maybe it's the fact that I am a "regular" visitor to an AOL lifestyle chat room and am used to people scamming there, but when I was reading this (and a similar female exam) thread, I got the feel that someone wanted "sexually exciting details" of a "Dr. taking advantage of a young, naive girl".
