The final of the Swedish Melody Festival Contest took place tonight. The winner was The Ark, with a melody that resembled 50'ies rock n' roll at its worst.

The band all wore shiny satin and way too much eyeliner for guys. The lead singer, however, sported a bra made out of large silver sequins and a short white jacket with shoulderpads made out of the tail feathers of a rooster - possibly to indicate his love for cock.

Think Bob Goldthwaite singing and prancing around dressed like a drag queen, and you'll know what to expect from Sweden at this year's Eurovision Song Contest!

Please, please refrain from watching, or I'll be forced to leave my homeland and settle down in the most secluded regions of the Brazilian rainforest...

Hmmm.
You mean to say that anyone actually expects anything more from Sweden?

Hey! We had a very respectable and beloved singer humping the microphone stand last year!

That must have been a Eurovision highlight for the ages! It really sums up so much of what the competition is about.

I´ve stoped watching the stupid thing years ago. So if you need some company in the rainforest, let me know. I´m thinking about fleeing to.

Eurovision Song Contest... What a joke.

That's the point. If you see it as a parody of pop music then it's great fun. We have Terry Wogan commentating on it and spend more time laughing than listening to the music.

Of course there are the complaints from other countries after the contest. In one recent year Terry Wogan referred to the co-presenters as "Dr Death and The Tooth Fairy" throughout.

The Swedish entry sounds entirely appropriate. They will be memorable, and that counts more than musical ability in the voting process.

The voting is politically and ethnically biased. The song that wins isn't necessarily the best but is probably from a country that hasn't annoyed other countries this year. The UK will NOT win. We are too unpopular in parts of Europe - this year.

That's the best description of Eurovision I've ever heard :D

You nailed it, Og :rose:

Thing is, they're normally a pretty good band. Didn't watch the thing on tv, but I heard the song some days ago, and it's the dullest three minutes of music they've ever done.

The music doesn't really matter. Eurovision is about presentation, not content. (Just like modern politics of any democratic country and all parties)

If they strip a few people on stage and perform some naff dancing, who cares about the music?

Lyrics? "Boom Bang-a-Bang" is good. That can be imitated by any 12 year-old no matter what their native language is.

Still waiting for that. After the latex trolls last year, it's hard to scream louder.

Not that people won't try. Wanna bet how many will be dressed up as non-humans this year?
