Ok, there's only so many times I can watch Under the Tuscan Sun without the risk of me becoming immune to its feel good factor *gulp*
With my Master away at the moment and xmas looming, I need to widen my collection from the usual suspects....serendipity, love actually, Notting Hill. You get the picture lol

So what feel good films do you recommend I watch and why?

They don't need to be girly/chick flicks, but they need to leave me with a warm glow and thinking 'ain't love/life/divorce/justice/whatever wonderful' :)

Waking Ned Divine - it's set in Ireland... it's funny... and makes a wonderful statement about what is really important in life

The Quiet Man - for the same reasons..plus.. young John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara

Other movies..that Malin and I use when we're down

The Princess Bride - can never see this movie too many times
Empire Records
10 Things I Hate about You
EuroTrip
(yeah they're "teen" movies.. but especially Empire records.. is so well written.. it brightens my mood every time - DAMN THE MAN!)

When I'm by myself..
Pride and Prejucice
Sense and Sensibility
Mystery Alaska - c'mon.. Russell Crowe
Bridget Jones I & II - Favorite line, "Wait a minute... nice boys dont kiss like that.... (in a low, sensual growl) Oh yes they fuckin do"

That's all I can think of for now.. Malin and I have quite the DVD collection.. but as I'm still naked and have to get ready for work.. I think he's going to get frustrated with me if I keep typing
Chronicles of Narnia

ooh thanks Fi! :rose:

I already have the bridget jones ones lol and am a huge fan of pride and prejudice, sense and sensilbilty. Actually I think I have Mansfield Park with me.

The Waking Ned Divine really appeals....I shall check it out! :)

One of the few I like in this genre is actually "Stranger Than Fiction" Also "As Good as it Gets" but you have to find Jack Nicholson in it both funny and appalling. I think those are the only feel good movies I've seen where I didn't feel a little icky after. Oh, and Little Miss Sunshine, but now we're getting into weirder waters.

Oh not sure I've heard that one Netzach. Then again I'm crap with names.

Who is in it/whats it about please?

It's Will Ferrel - he is just this guy who all of a sudden starts hearing the voice of Emma Thompson narrating his life, and realizes that he is, in fact, a character in her book...

A Good Year - A Russell Crowe movie, lots of sun, plenty of romance and a nice feel good ending.

Firstly my dear.. love actually??? notting hill??? come on... that is shallow nonsense.. lol ;)

As good as it gets is brilliant... Well worth a watch.

As for feel good films, I used to always watch american beauty when I felt down. That always helped as I loved the lines kevin spacey had during the voice over bits.

My big fave for feel good is Amelie. It is brilliant and is one of the most beautiful looking films ever made. Nice funny story too..

As for silly comedies that always make me laugh. School of rock is always good for a giggle and has a nice feel good ending. If you wanna go back a few years, I agree with Princess Bride, but would always recommend the goonies and caddyshack as they are fab too. (oh and if you really wanna get into crappy film territory, cool runnings never fails lol...)

One other thing to add, and yes I know you are in oz, but Waking Ned Devine was also released as Waking Ned in the uk. Just so you don't get confused. Another good suggestion though.

Hmmm lately...

Because I said So - Mandy Moore and Diane Keaton
Catch and Release

I love good ole sappy girls movies they always make me feel good..;)

Amelie is a good pick. Again, it's very hard for me to watch a lighthearted romance without feeling like I need to scrub it off after, so that's going out on a limb for me.

I couldn't stand love actually either. Great actors, but lord, the writing was awful.

School of Rock is definitely a sweet, feel good movie.

How about Bring it On? Campy cheerleading fun!

What about Strictly Ballroom? And then Mouin Rouge is fun.

What About Bob....always leaves me feeling good and is the perfect remedy when I'm heading for depression. :cathappy:

Catalina :catroar:

Mozart and the Whale is one that hasn't been mentioned that always makes feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Anger Management...REALLY funny.

Moonlight and Valentino..older Whoopi Goldberg movie...sorta romantic comedyish... REALLY good.

Hotaru no haka (1988) (english title: Graveyard of the Fireflies) is a japanese anime, and one of the sadest movie I've ever seen.

I know I know, you asked for 'feel good' movies. But when I feel like shit, this is one of the movies I always go back to: it's so beautifully sad that it takes the focus away from my own pain. But I'm weird that way.

Ooo Stranger than Fiction is good.. a little weird..but good

and Bring it on.. yes.. we love that one too. Also Cant Hardly Wait

I actually liked Love Actually.. what about The Full Monty.. sure. it's a little campy.. but I love the relationship between the heavy guy and his wife.. *sigh*

Any of the Shrek Movies are good...

Reign Over Me with Adam Sandler while being sad has a great story line

Wild Hogs is a hilarious movie..when you need a great laugh this is the one for you

Elizabethtown is a great movie that I think you might like

Because I said So such a great movie

The Pursuit of Happyness another good one

I could go on and on but those are a few you mightl ike

I highly recommend "Twin Falls Idaho" directed by Michael Polish, written by him and his twin brother Mark. Really sweet/sad/bitterly happy movie about conjoined twins and how they deal with the outside world.

So true. The Princess Bride is one of the most entertaining films ever made.

Minx - If I were going for light, feel good type stuff, personally I'd pick a film packed with fun adventure, a heavy dose of humor, and of course an upbeat ending. Something like Raiders of the Lost Ark, or the first Star Wars film ever made.

Nice to see you, btw. Here's hoping the folks Down Under are treating you well.

Recently acquainted with the movie Rooster Cogburn, it's old like the person that recommended I watch it, but hey...... some things improve with age.

Not everything though : chuckles :

A few movies that I've watched lately that I've forgotten how much I enjoyed...

Grumpy Old Men
Grumpier Old Men
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Groundhog Day
Slingblade...not haha funny, funny queer
Little Miss Sunshine....mentioned before, but good enough to mention again
Murphy's Romance...i watched it for the horses when i was a kid...now I'm old enough to appreciate the story :D
The Departed- I've watched this twice this week alone..but probably not considered a feelgood movie

Ohhh, that is a good one. And it has a wintery feel to it.

Chocolat always makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside too.

Hi, minxie!

EmpressFi wrote "The Quiet Man" that is one of my favs too!

I can't help too much, because here in Spain they translate titles and In don't know most of the original English titles... but I will try:

Casablanca
Don Juan DeMarco
Dr. Zhivago
Family Man
Ghost
Jerry McGuire
Kate & Leopold
Ladyhawke
Last of the Mohicans
Message In a Bottle
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves
Sweet November
The African Queen
The Fountainhead
The Quiet Man
The Sound Of Music
While You Were Sleeping
You've Got Mail

Hope you like classic movies! :catroar:

Pretty woman I would suggest... Romance, smiles, a happy ending...
For a good laugh, all of Ernst Lubitsch's comedies are good... if you like old, B&W movies.

By Chocolat, you mean the one with Juliette Binoche (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0241303/) ? Such a sensual movie...
If you like her as an actress, I would recommend Jet Lag starring Jean Reno (mmmmm ), a good comedy and of course the English patient, which earned her an Academy award.
