Feedback on unapproved Nonconsent submission

Don't really have time to read something this long on something you're going to have to resolve with the selection editors anyway--not just get opinions on what they should do from forum posters. If it doesn't have under-18 sex, and you've made that explicit in your story, you just resubmit and state that in the comments section of the story. But if you stated it in your story but something in your story doesn't bear that out, you need to fix it first.

Respond to the violence part in the comments section too. If the selection editor thinks it's too violent/degrading/etc., though, that's their call, regardless of how you think it compares with other stories (although you could cite some of those other stories for the editors' consideration). The selection editors own the site; they can tell you they don't like a character's shade of nail polish and reject a story if they like.

In the case of underage sex and gratuitous whatever, though, they are just trying to keep this site in a legal zone that doesn't get the FBI showing up on my doorstep--and that's just hunky dory with me. Wouldn't it be with you too?

(By the way, technical point--but one involving FBI visitations--if the editors are questioning whether the story is a proper fit for this site, you don't really want to slap the whole thing on the forum--because it's just as published here as it would be in the story file, and if it gives the site standing heartburn there, it does it here too. I'd suggest you pull the text off the forum until your issue is resolved.)

Is there any way to contact the selection editors, because the advice given is general and not very helpful on specifics.

I actually thought it was pretty well done and have seen stories that are a lot worse and a hell of a lot more violent than that one was. I was going to send you an email but you don't accept them.

You can PM (private message) them--there are buttons here and there for doing that. I have had trouble finding them myself, so I can't direct you right to them, I'm sorry to say. First place I'd check is the story submissions page.

That said, I've never gotten an answer to a PM to the selection editors (which may only be Laurel), and they might not want to engage in dialogue exchanges on a story--they must be terribly busy just to push through the large number of posted stories they handle every day.

The only changes I've ever gotten to any of my stories that needed something adjusted was by refiling the story as a submission and talking at the editors in the comments box. (And, yes, I've had a couple rejected on similar grounds to yours and managed to get them accepted unchanged just by pointing out in that comments box that the story didn't contain what the rejecting editor was suggesting it might.)

If that doesn't work, you might go to the Editor's Forum here and ask if there's a volunteer editor who will look at the story and give you advice on what might be changed to get it through and try it again. (With a different title and blurb, if you think that just a second attempt is all it needs.)

You could put in your comments section that Daniellkitten said it was fine and it would probably breeze on through. (not joking)

I don't know about that. I've had stories rejected before.

Haven't we all. But the editors are so familiar with your work, I have no doubt they'd rely on your limits eye--especially since that eye is informed concerning what might get rejected.

It's up now. I'll PM you the story if you want to help me out at all.

Ok, thanks, will try this.
