sr71plt said:The only changes I've ever gotten to any of my stories that needed something adjusted was by refiling the story as a submission and talking at the editors in the comments box. (And, yes, I've had a couple rejected on similar grounds to yours and managed to get them accepted unchanged just by pointing out in that comments box that the story didn't contain what the rejecting editor was suggesting it might.)
If that doesn't work, you might go to the Editor's Forum here and ask if there's a volunteer editor who will look at the story and give you advice on what might be changed to get it through and try it again. (With a different title and blurb, if you think that just a second attempt is all it needs.)
