To all of you who think it is take a look at the Writers Groups Pro/Con thread, started by Ray Dario, in the Authors' Hangout Forum.

me me me me me me

I myself am an attention whore. If people don't comment on what I do, I feel as if either they must not be reading it or they must not be enjoying it. I actually write most of my erotica for other people, not for myself. It is my vehicle to get attention.

So therefore, if people don't give me feedback, I stop writing.

I cannot make a final decision about my own work because I am horribly self critical. If I wrote the greatest novel in the world I would think it is shit, simply because I wrote it. It is fucked up of me, but true.

I am sure that each author feels differently about feedback. I'm not really into the rating system used here. It's a nice general guage but there is too much that affects the number to make it of any real value. I certainly wouldn't alter my writing because of how my other stories are doing.

I find it odd that at least in my case, I have at least one story that was practically a throw away, yet it has a pretty high rating. One or two others that I feel are much better written and much more erotic haven't fared so well. (It may be because they were posted way before the new system went in.)

Another thing that seems to contribute to readership and ratings is how well known you are on the site and the bulletin board. I don't do much posting so I'm not all that well known and so my stories aren't as well read as the other more established members. It certainly makes sense to read the stuff from authors that you know.

It can work against you too. It is clear that if you post something contrary to the opinions of a few, your stories get slammed. That is a real shame. It just further de-values the great concept of the rating system.

The feedback that I most enjoy is the email. They have been very wonderful and have contained many useful suggestions and comments.

So much for my feedback on feedback.

p_p_man, regardless of the pro/con thread, I think feedback is very important for all who write. Feedback, whether good or bad, helps us to learn and therefore improve with our next writings. When one of my readers comments on something they think could be improved, I take a serious look at it. Many times, I end up changing the area they suggested. Sometimes, we just get to close to our work and we don't see things as we should. I think feedback is extremely important because through others we learn an learning is what writing is all about.

Also, feedback lets us know that our stories are being read. We like knowing this, hell, we thrive on knowing our stories are being read, and even better, enjoyed. When I receive feedback, it always puts a smile on my face. I take the good with the bad and with each and every comment, I strive to do better. My goal as a writer is to learn, and in learning, you have to listen to your readers. You have to capture your audience and make them love you...and want more...of your wonderful stories.
