Reviving Cactiphile's lost in the pages ideal!

A feedback circle is a wonderful thing to have, I think, it makes sure you get some feedback!

It's a simple concept, you give feedback and others give feedback. However, to make things clearer, I'll go ahead and post a few guidelines. :)

1) I will make a list in this post, which I will try to keep edited to keep it current, of all people who wish to participate in the circle. That makes it easier to check back so you don't have to sort through a long thread with conversation to get the important information that you need.

2) The list will be a series of links that go to an author's memberpage. No specific stories please, just your memberpage.

3) The idea: Start somewhere on the list and work your way down on a regularish basis. Read a story/poem of your choosing and send the author feedback using the feedback form provided by Lit. Voting is helpful. Use the anonymous feedback feature, don't give it here. This is more to meet and discuss how it's working or talk about writing. In depth feedback is very lengthy to read through. Not to mention that if this works then there will be a lot of it and it's difficult to check. Make sure that you've got the option to receive anonymous feedback selected in your member profile. If you do not, then you can't participate, not shouldn't, just can't.

4) Give constructive criticism, not just "great job!" Tell them what you liked or didn't like. Make sure they know you're in the circle so they're reminded to do the same. Do NOT send negative feedback. There are enough nasty people out there attacking all and sundry without adding to the list.

5) Participate! Don't just sign up for feedback and not give any! That's not fair to anyone and it's incredibly selfish. This circle only works when people participate in it. It's not going to get you mounds of feedback, but it will net you some that will be helpful to you.

6) How to sign up? Easy! Just post something. Introduce yourself a little, maybe, and include a link to your authorpage. Conversation is always welcome on this thread, because the circle is a community and it helps to get to know each other at times.

7) How to post a link? Go to your own memberpage, the place that lists the stories. Click in the address bar. Right click in the address bar. Select copy. Come back here and post a reply. When you're ready to put in your link, right click in the reply area and select paste. There is no need to tag it, in fact I would prefer if you didn't. The BB automatically parses, or tags, urls so that they make embedded links in the page. I'll copy them and add them to the list in the next post!

8) I am not going to personally participate, there is no need to offer feedback to my stuff unless you're feeling particularly bored. I won't offer feedback either, I have a thread for that already. I am, however, going to moderate to make sure things keep running smoothly. If they run at all.

9) You can always make your own feedback for others on the forum!

I'm slow

KM--

Let me see if I understand. In signing up, I agree to read works by participating author/poets.

1) Every member that is listed, I am to read something by them and send them feedback via the option at the end of a selection.

2) Each member in this circle will do the same.

3) We can comment about how the networking and feedback is going, but we are not to give specific feedback about selections in this thread.

Am I following? Will you close off membership? If names continue to be added, am I obligated to read each new author in the circle?

How will we maximize participation, meaning how will you police 'post and run' offenders? Folks do it on a regular basis. Common courtesy would be to offer feedback to someone who has done the same for you.

Hate to repeat stuff, but I have been known to screw up directions.

I'm happy to support.

Peace,

daughter

I'm game

I'd like to be part of this.

It worked pretty well last time while it lasted, nothing lasts forever.

The problem was that it got too big, I think, and we did have some post and runners.

There really isn't a way to police that, beyond a weekly "who have you heard from" post. Mostly it's a scouts honor thing.

Post links, you're good. The guidelines are simple I hope. I'll clarify them as need be.

Count me in too.

I'll post my link when I get some stories posted. At the rate it's going it probably won't be until after the New Year.

This sounds interesting. And also a great way to get your story read alot and hopefully voted on by other authors (and not the damn "1" fairy).

perky

oh yeah, PS.....take my writing with a grain of salt...didn't have a focus yet....it's very raw....but I want you all to be brutally honest anyway, to see if my thoughts and yours on what I need to fix and change are alike.....gracias

No! Not my first work!

Perky Baby please! Read something of mine that is worth reading, not my first work.

"Caught" and "Kelly's Date" are both horrid! I know it and everyone who read them knew it! Pick something recent instead, I beg you! If you do I'll read every one of your poems and vote too, hell, I'll even give you feedback on every one of your poems :)

Thought I'd give this a little bump, just to keep it in everyone's field of vision.

Y'know KM, it might not be a bad idea to put a link to this thread on the author's forum as well. Just so folks there know about it too.

Merry Christmas, and if you don't believe in Christmas then Happy holidays!

Actually just keeping the thread alive!

For all the new people who are trying to gain feedback, here's a win-win opportunity.

For those who are participating, are you getting replies to your comments and are you receiving feedback on your work?

Thanks to all of you who chosen to participate.

Peace,

daughter

feedback

Daughter,

We have provided feedback to 6 authors in the last week or so but as of today have only received a response back from one of those, and haven't received any feedback for any our stories. We have to admit that we have become a little concerned that perhaps being new to the circle, our comments were not taken in the manner that we intended them to be. We tried to be constructive in any comments that we made and yet maintain the honesty that we think we all are looking for. We'll also post our link again and look forward to some review of our work soon!

timing

LustyLovers--

Is it possible that your feedback has gone unanswered because of the holidays? Many writers also belong to listserves(I do) or other online communities. It is possible they have not seen your mail.

I doubt your status here would affect someone from responding. I don't know a writer here who doesn't appreciate feedback. I principally write poetry. I have not received mail from you and the holidays have cramped my writing habits. If I have been remiss, I apologize.

I will make it my business to check out your selections. Thanks for giving us a heads up. You might try sending a pm to authors alerting them that they have feedback in the mailboxes.

Folks are returning the forum now that the holidays are over. We're getting back into the groove. Welcome, LustyLovers. We're glad you've chosen to join us.

Peace,

daughter

I've noticed that timing thing myself. I get a round of "regular" mail whenever I put up something new and the last story went unnoticed by several of them.

Bob & Reb,

I have provided feedback to everyone in the circle now, including you. Perhaps you didn't realize my feedback came from the feedback circle, but I did say that explicitly at the top of the feedback. My feedback to you was for your audio story "Marital Delights" and I know that you recieved it because you wrote back to me thanking me for the feedback.

Up to this point I have only recieved feedback from Daughter, but I simply assume that the others have been busy with the holidays. It is after all a very busy time of the year.

So just relax, the feedback will certainly come and if it doesn't then what are you out? The few minutes it took to read the great stories posted by the other members and the time it took to compose your thoughts and write a little feedback. Not much really.

Ray--

You are a really cool about this thing. Your comments to me is the only one I've received. :)

I will be sending off replies before heading out of town. Many of us have other requests besides the circle, too. Personally, I have neglected my listserve as of late for all the time I've committed here.

Things go in cycles. We have great support here and it is growing.

Glad you're here.

Peace,

daughter

I apologize for not getting to everyone in the circle yet. I was out of town for 6 days during X-mas and have been catching up on things since getting back. Plus, I've been working on some stories myself :) I will do my best to get to everyone this week or at the lastest, next week.

RE:Feedback from Perky Baby

Perky,

Thanks for the great feedback! It is comments like that, that help writers like me improve and write better!

Hmm, now I owe her feedback on all of her poems! Well I'm looking forward to it.
