We often have had threads which encourage readers to vote and provide feedback. Oftentimes, these threads indicate that not enough readers do provide feedback.

In recent months, I have sent non anonymous feedback to several authors and received no response from them. I believe that it would do much to increase the reader's willingness to put the time into providing feedback if the author were to respond.

I understand that a pm full of positive feedback may not be as likely to strike a chord that motivates the author to respond. However, a quick thank you note would probably go far in terms of encouraging the reader to continue to provide feedback.

Take care all and keep on writing!

return of the feedback

I always reply to positive feedback so obviously you have missed all my stories lol. You are indeed a fortunate individual. I agree all authors should respond to positive and negative feedback. truth is when i get negative i usually am pissed for a few mintues then can see that the sender had some points. The sender usually just doesnt know how to phrase it in a positive manner. I would so like to write just to say thanks.. but alas no email addy.

Please read something I wrote then send me feed back good or bad and i promise to respond. Hell, I will even tell you all my inner most secrets. And as rick said to the cop, "Louie, I think this is the beginning of a great friendship."

Hi, all;

It only makes sense to respond to someone who takes time out of their day to say they liked your stuff. I also respond to negative feedback if the writer posts his return email. Good and bad feedback; you need both in order to keep learning the craft of writing. Good feedback motivates. Bad feedback educates. Flames just get me right pissed off, but those clowns seldom leave return addys.

Good thing, too!

I am chuckling as I realized after posting this thread, that at least one person would say this :)

However, correct me if I am wrong, but I think I read a Halloween entry of yours and liked it very much. Given the volume of stories, I may not have been able to send out a pm.

I will go check now :)

is it possible you misunderstood?

It seems to me that MW is congratulating you for missing all of his stories.

NAW! That can't be right...sorry.

Back to the topic, i think that dialogue between the writers and readers is one of the greatest features of this site. The fact that so many of the members play both parts is really fascinating.

It would seem that for non-anonymous feedbackers, you'd do ALL the members a service by helping to convince them their time wasn't wasted.

i imagine that for a person with a LOT of stories on-line it might be a little complicated, but i'm sure Dear Abby would agree with you too.

Another point is brought out in one of the other threads and very nicely by Tatewaki. If you have NEGATIVE feedback, attach your E-mail address! Unless your chicken!

Miss Taken, good topic,eh!(and AWESOME avatar)

Oh...and MysteryWriter, just kidding i'm gonna go read some of your stories RIGHT NOW!

Thank you for the compliment on my av.

And yes! Go read MS's stories! I have started and just haven't finished them yet.

They are worth the read. :)

Feedback is nice!

You are so right about responding to feedback. If somebody takes the time to read your story and then give you feedback, I think it's only courteous to respond, whether they liked it or not. After all, that's the only way you'll find out about how your style and substance is being perceived.

The voting system in Literotica is also an indication, but I've noticed only about 2 to 3% of the readers who vote ever send feedback, anonymous or otherwise.
