Okay so I have run into a slight problem and am hoping for a little advice.

As I was writing the next installment of my story an interesting thing happened the story took a different turn.

As I wrote, it became a little less of a fuck story and more of something a little darker and more literary.

So my question is this do I continue down this path and write a more well rounded story or do I go back and just make it about sex to satisfy my; I hesitate to use the term "fans" but have nothing better.

I can always just write two version I guess.

Just hoping that someone out has been in this situation before and can give me some advice.

it's quite a common occurrence around these parts.

me, i'd say let the story write itself. although it may get a little 'lost' or out of control. you read back and wonder where you were going in the first place. what does your gut tell you to do?

problem might be the conflicting opinions and advice you get from this thread.

good luck, either way.

I guess I already know what I want to do. I'm just one of those weird people who like to hear it from someone else.

I often start out to write a fuck story and end up writing something 'more interesting'. The result (if I post it) is usually hardly any readers and virtually no votes. But I do seem to have a small handful of readers who actually prefer 'more interesting', and those readers often send me very complimentary notes. So take your choice. And good luck. :)

Writing is a hobby and a passion for me. I write for myself first. When I post the story it will attract some fan base, but don't get lured into pleasing "fans". That is some childish ass thinking that big time writers get suckered into once they have developed their style and want to keep the cash flow rolling in. This is an erotic story site. Have fun doing what you enjoy. Damn the "fans" my 2cents👠👠👠Kant

My last question is- are you happy with what you are doing with your story since it took an unexpected twist? That's the only thing that should matter to you.

My advice: Finish the damn story. You're fans are probably more literary than you think. We all like to diss on the readers here because of a few illiterate trolls that wander in and shit in the comments section, but by and large the readers at Literotica are the cream of the crop among Sex Story Site visitors. You will get shit on by trolls by writing a "Literary" story here, but your true fans will probably appreciate it.

At least I hope like hell this is true. The story I'm finishing the editing on right now did this to me. I wanted it to be a little sex romp and it got all philosophical and romantic on me. I have even decided to submit it in the Romance category. We'll see how it does.

Just an additional thought. In my stories I put a good bit of time and energy into building up the "supporting" characters. I use my supporting characters to keep my main character "in line" and steering the story in the direction I envisioned from the beginning. I also keep a stock pile of plot notes, but that's just me since my memory doesn't serve me well now that I'm older 👠👠👠Kant

Which version of the story do you want to write? If both, write both. This isn't an answer a committee can give you. I write the story I want to write first and worry about its reception later (or not at all). But if you worry about its reception more than your personal satisfaction with where it goes, that's fine too. If so, which do you think will get the better reception? Be decisive. Fully own your story.

Well, I obviously know your stories rather well :) and suggested to you some time ago that they had the potential to go many places, and to become more literary by exploring an extra layer of complexity that was already evident in the story line.

I'm not sure if the dark aspect you describe is the same one I'm thinking of, but my thought would be - go where your pen takes you. The readers might or might not like it, but I'd bet it would give you a lot more satisfaction in the long run. And once it's written, you might be able to insert more sex scenes.

Just my $0.02c...

Incidentally, my series (about 70% done) has suddenly taken a dark turn as well, and is in danger of being more of a character study than an erotic story. So the critics in Loving Wives will probably rip me to shreds :(

Thanks all.

And Thanks Haul you will obviously be one of the first ones to read it when it is done and you can tell me what you think.

I think I am going where the story takes me and to hell with the rest.

Thanks again.

I keep control of my story.

What you had was what happens when my mind wanders on the drive home from Tampa. I intend to come here, and go to Ocala, 100 miles north of Tampa. When my writing wanders I remove the digression and open a new file for it. Occasionally the digression is an improvement, and stays.

You also might like to catch the wild apostrophe.
Particularly the one on your title;
Author's it ain't.
Authors, I think.

[sorry; couldn't resist that one] :)

My first Incest story started out as just a hot tale, or so I thought. Then I went through just what you described. Just got so interested in the plot. I think you should keep going. I ended up with six chapters--who knew?--and some diehard fans. I think they will LOVE it. Long series do well in Incest and contrary to popular belief, they love a good story. You can add in tons of sex scenes here and there.

So I say go for it and enjoy it!

I support all of the answers shown so far. When you write, things happen: Some are expected and some are surprises. Finish the story and let it sit for a week. Then read it. If you like it, clean it up and put it out. If you aren't pleased with it, put it away for a rewrite or the trash. If you aren't proud of what you wrote, why would you want to put it out for others to read? The pay is the same either way.

It's feedback. And authors. It's called orthography. Like, proper spelling and grammar.

Beyond that, write what you want. Write what satisfies you. You don't get paid here, except in votes and likes and comments. If you want those rewards, write to please audiences. If you don't care, write whatever you want. Tickle your own fancies. Loosen up.
