Yep, you guessed it; Groundhog Day!

And yes, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow today and that means six more weeks of winter!

I wasn't satisfied with that, so I looked outside my bedroom window to see if I could find any local groundhogs - and look what I found! The rare Pacific NorthWet Groundhog sitting on a tree stump! Yeah yeah, it doesn't look quite like Punxsutawney Phil , but you will just have to take my word for it that this is a PNW Groundhog.

Unforunately, he saw his shadow too (it is sunny here today), so I will just have to resign myself to six more weeks of winter.

Saw the sun here, too. But winter has been so mild I don't care if it stays around for another 6 weeks!

I'd just like to say that, having spent two and a half hellish days in Punxsatawney, PA, that it's NOTHING like the town which is portrayed in "Goundhog Day".

It's a pit. And the food is bad. And the deer are suicidal.

The movie was actually filmed about a half an hour west of me here in Illinois. The restaurant that was shown a lot in the movie was closed for a couple of years, but opened up again last year. And the food is good there!

Yes it is; much smaller than the PA sub-species, and with the rare black and white markings. What is really interesting is the sound it makes - almost kind of like a feline sound.

This particular hedgehog is outside my bedroom window most mornings makingthat sound and looking up at the neighbor's window. Maybe they feed it?
