Already, some farmers in Illinois and Missouri have given up on parched and stunted fields, mowing them over. National experts say parts of five corn-growing states, including Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio, are experiencing severe or extreme drought conditions. And in at least nine states, conditions in one-fifth to one-half of cornfields have been deemed poor or very poor, federal authorities reported this week, a notable shift from the high expectations of just a month ago.

You mean clear cutting the land to grow corn for bio-fuel was a bad idea! Who knew.

and thank God we are not building new nuclear power plants and relying on obama's insane plan

solar and wind are great toys but we need more nuclear power plans

Maybe dead corn stalks can be used as fuel. :)

obama's energy plan is like all his others, its a failed and flawed.

Now, I'm all for adding wind and solar into the mix. However I do not trust obama investing in these energies after all, look at the 800 billion obama has wasted to date.

if we want to live the same life style, then we need more Nuclear. its just that simple.

granted, obama and radical islam goal is to take us back to biblical times (in terms of technology)

You can add Wisconsin to that list, at least in the southern half.
Today we are supposed to come close to breaking an all time record for temperature set in 1934. Not just the temp for this date, the highest temp EVER in this location.

The corn looks like pineapple fields.

I'm sure this is Bush's fault

It would take an intellect like Koalatard's to explain how this became yet another Obama hate thread.

We haven't had any significant rain in well over a month. Probably closer to two months now. Add the extreme heat and everything is just dying. Lawns are brown, flowers wilted or dead, crops stunted. So far we don't have any limits on water usage or anything like that but if it keeps up I'm sure we will.

He's so stupid and confused he just picks and chooses what to believe at any given time.

So true.

Perfect example: Merc's thread, supporting global warming...

Hot in July, who would have thunk it.

Koalabear disapproves of Merc's logic. Which is interesting, considering that he employed the exact same logic in his previous thread, dismissing global warming:

NOAA: U.S. Cooler and Much Drier than Normal in January

Cold in January, Mr. koalabear. Who would have thunk it? ;)

ahhhhhhh, i do so love it when jackwads who have never seen food produced tell those of us that grow your food how we should do so.

just a couple points
1) we're always concerned about the amount and timing of rain
2) we know what the fuck we're doing and don't need 'advice' from those who don't

I wonder if the derpers have ever heard of irrigation?

We have a minority of farmers around here who have irrigation for their crops. Most rely on rain. We haven't had rain in weeks and weeks.

If they rely on crops for income then they are stupid not to have irrigation on at least parts of their fields.

But that's just me, I always like to have an option #2.

Down here in south Texas, things are lush and green.

Six cycles of three days of rain, three days of 100 degree heat has made my lawn a green paradise....and a twice-a-week lawnmowing pain in the ass.

The words Texas and green are not often used in that sequence.
